Question about web site traffic: Can a lot of people with a site up,

tie it up and make it difficult for others to get to the page? There is a site I would LOVB to see get so much traffic loitering that the real targets of the site are unable to get to it.

Army recruiters offering 3 free iTunes download to those who will sign up to be contacted!

So, if enough of us with tabbed browsing keep that page running, can we slow down kids getting exploited by this ploy?

1. Yeah, but...

It takes a LOT of traffic and generally the traffic has to be unexpected, for it really to impact anything. Like when some little website gets a mention on NPR or something and BANG, millions of people are swamping it...

But with the Army doing a promotion, they'll be braced for a lot of traffic, so even if every DUer went on their site and loaded 10 tabs and reloaded the page every 30 seconds, it probably wouldn't slow them down much at all.

No to mention all the trouble you'd probably get into for attempting to fuck with Army recruitment, etc. IF you were to promote this hypothetical situation in reality.

Best kept as a hypothetical...

Is lying to the nation in SOTU address legal? Is invading a nation which has not done anything legal?

6. Sorry, I won't be part of it.

There are other ways of handling such things. Like speaking the truth to power. Political advocacy. Running for office. Taking to the streets. Writing letters. Holding our government accountable. A myriad of other methods. What you suggest could be felonious.

5. It's called a DOS Denial of Service attack and it's illegal

Plus I believe it is against DU rules to advocate for one.
Just having the page open does nothing.
