Did Bennett just give the Dem's their chance to cut the abortion albatross?
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 12:25 PM by NNN0LHI
I am thinking he just might have. I think Bennett just exposed the Republicans dirty little secret. They don't want to do away with abortion. They don't want a bunch of unwanted babies added to the population no matter what color they are any more than we do. Don't have to be a racist to want that.

But I do wonder if this divisive issue has done anything to help Dem's win elections? Probably not. Sure seems to get the Republicans base all fired up though. I think any Dem could probably change their position a bit on this issue right now without taking much grief thanks to Bill Bennett. I may be wrong?

Don

Edited: Almost forgot. It will get the Pope off our ass too. Something to think about.

1. Might be wishful thinking
because I don't think he is all that respected as a Republican.

3. They don't want a bunch of unwanted babies.
No, now that is not the way it is. They don't want a bunch of "black babies", see....because they cause crime. Carrying around those 357's under their mama's teat. White babies are okay. In case a white christian couple needs one to adopt and show off to their friends. Preferable blonde.

11. Especially if you have your sights set
on a seat on the Supreme court, are a male conservative corporatist well into your forties, never got married until the whispers started, found a uptight self-hating woman that would agree to your deal, and then go buy yourself a couple of Aryans on the black market.
Sound familiar?

4. I just don't see abortion as an albatross...
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 12:28 PM by SteppingRazor
poll after poll, the majority of the country supports some form of abortion.

On edit: Check out this link to a recent poll:

http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2005/50StateAbortion0805SortedbyProLife.htm

Note how there are only 10 states out of 50 where more people are against abortion than for it.
Note also the weighted average is 56% for abortion.

5. Only one poll counts though. Election day
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 12:31 PM by NNN0LHI
Sure people may feel that way but it is not enough to get them either to go out and vote or vote against a "man of God" if they do. See what I mean?

6. The issue is CHOICE - not abortion!
Let's not let THEM define the issues. One does not have to be in favor of abortion to be in favor of a Woman's Right To Choose how to deal with her health and her offspring.

We are not Pro-Abortion as much as we are PRO CHOICE. THEY want to limit our choices.

Replace abortion with religion. We have the Choice to be religious or not to be religious. If we take that choice away, those who want to practice it would not be allowed to.

7. The Republicans are never going to outlaw CHOICE or abortion...
...or whatever you want to call it. They want that CHOICE too. Their kids screw and get pregnant just as much as any other kids do. Who is kidding who here? Who thinks one or more of Jebs or Georges daughters hasn't had an abortion yet?

10. Before Roe v Wade
Rich, white women were getting abortions all the time. What they hate so much about Roe v Wade is that it gave that right to the dirty poor.

People need to stop thinking this issue is "safe." I've made a few predictions about this government over the past 5 years that everyone told me "would never happen," and, sadly, every one of them has come true. Don't underestimate the enemy.

15. They would outlaw choice for YOU
but would still fly their mistresses and daughters to Europe for an abortion like the rich and powerful did back before it was legal here.
Hypocrites that do not even believe their own rhetoric; that is for the gullible. Jeebus is only a political tool for these people, if it was politically expedient to espouse Atheism they would drop the Xtians like a hot rock.

9. What exactly would get the Pope off our ass?
I'm not sure I'm following the gist of your message. If you're suggesting we back off of supporting a woman's right to choose on the pretext that the 'pubs will never get rid of it, no thanks.

If anyone thinks that rich, white Repubs who want abortions wouldn't get them anyway if Roe v Wade were overturned, you're not paying attention to history. Rich, white girls have always had access to abortion.

In addition, keeping the poverty class in poverty allows the rich to keep their wealth, and there is nothing that keeps people impoverished better than taking away their ability to control their own reproduction.

As for Popes? Those elitist white fucks have been controlling people for centuries by ensuring that the poor stay poor and pregnant.

Don't kid yourself into thinking the RW would be happy if poor minorities stopped having babies. They'd run out of grist for their mills really fast.

13. If you could scrunch all that down into some handy catch phrase...
...like the Republicans do to get through to the ignorant with their famous "stop killing innocent babies" BS I think we would be all right. But if it takes five paragraphs to get your message through you might as well save your breath because no one will be listening. That is just the way it is. Don't get mad at me. That is just the way it is. The Republicans figured that out a long time ago.

This is a Democratic message board. I don't need to dumb down my posts here to discuss something. I'm not running for office.

If your attention span is that short, just put me on ignore and spare yourself the agony. :eyes:

You ought to try doing something about that temper. I have been here since 2001 and don't even know how to use the ignore function. Never found a need for it. But thanks anyway.

17. Lol
What makes you think I'm mad?

You might want to do something about that condescension, though. Someone might think you were deliberately trying to bait. :)

Congratulations on your veteran status. :toast:
