1. I'd like to see a picture of god in firefighting gear.
Instead of threatening one and all of his precious children with the fiery lake.

2. Yeah, that always gets me, too.
Once, I paid the bail to get a friend out of jail (wrongful arrest) and all her sister could say was "praise Jesus." I went off on her.

5. Well see he oops He put the firemen right where they were spozed to be
That's what God does, apparently.

I think he's got one of those big war map thingies full of little pins, only his is so big it's beyond human comprehension. Either a map, or more like a Battleship setup. But big.

and minds of those brave firefighters"

I could've accepted that really I could've.....stupid bitch.

17. Ironically I'm not a person of religious faith either
I personally hold the belief that saying God exists is just as silly as saying God does not exist.

Essentially it's entirely faith based. You believe or you don't.

Those who accept that there is a higher power and channels the belief to do good I can't help but respect what I call the "light side" of faith.

Thanks though I didn't even think what I wrote would be read :)

19. You just plain cut through the overhead.
believer or non-believer; from what I understand, God sometimes works through others. You pointed that out quite emphatically. :-)

I'm a little buzzed from the Hurricane I just drank and I was in the middle of taking an online Cisco quiz (networking computer stuff) while watching The West Wing as I wrote my original comment?

I have to admit it's little moments like this where I lean towards believing there's a higher power at work.

24. Bah
God doesn't have anything to do with any of it. Except to the extent you might believe God gives each person talents to benefit others. Otherwise it's all just people doing the best they can and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. I've been through, and comforted friends through, too many tragedies to believe God is choosing who suffers through them and who doesn't. It's just the luck of the draw.

Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 11:35 PM by L.A.dweller
in Woodland Hills. The rich attorneys all attend the same church together and the families know one another through Bible Study.
The boss lives in Bell Canyon and his house was spared...I'm sure they think it is some type of miracle from god.

Edit to add: Those gated communities up in the hills are so elitist it is sickening. West Hills, might as well call it White Hills.

16. Howdy neighbor!!!!!!
Now, I have to start out by correcting you about your comment about West Hills. You need to know that West Hills didn't used to exist. It used to be part of Canoga Park (you know, the icky barrio part of the west end of the Valley). So several years ago they asked for their own ZIP code and neighborhood name for the whiter part of Canoga Park that is up against Bell Canyon. And therein lies the tale. LOL

A client of mine who lives up at the top of Bell Canyon (where the SUPER-RICH live) in one of those multimillion dollar places with the view of Las Virgenes had to evacuate and I boarded their fat, ugly, ill-tempered Persian cat for two days. They went back home today. They didn't have to use a Red Cross shelter, no..............he rented a VILLA up at the Ojai Valley Inn for them to stay in while they waited for the smoke to clear. I think he (entertainment attorney hubby) makes more money in 5 minutes than I made all last year.

9. It boggles the mind
I'm always slack-jawed at the NOLA survivors who thank god. For what? For breaking the levees? The hurricane? The alligators?

If I believed, I'd be royally pissed.

13. If it's good in their book, it's god. Otherwise it is bad luck or devil.
Tautological self-satisfying smug belief system. Fundamentalists (of any kind) don't have to think.
