Wake Me Up When September Ends is the only song that makes me cry.
The video, and the song if you listen closely enough, is about a soldier going off to Iraq. He is young, just out of school with a girlfriend. He is separated from a lot of things that he knows.

I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it.

It's by Green Day.

6. I love Green Day, so I don't want to rain on their parade, but...

"Wake Me Up When September Ends" was originally written by Billie Joe Armstrong about his father's death. His PR people convinced him to make his video for this song about other things.....(i.e. the current relevance.)

I am so sorry when an artist's true intent gets perverted. While the message may resonate--I'm saddened that Mr. Armstrong was denied the right to properly mourn his father.

7. I read something about that.
It is sad. Very, very sad. Well, now that Greenday is a smash hit band, maybe they can take more of a creative control.

9. Actually, they've been a "smash hit band" for years...
This is their first album with any real relevance, though.

8. That is sad, but in reality, music and words mean different
things to different people. If the video had been about his father, I still think the words themselves would have been construed to the war.

11. The Darling Son about columbine by stephan smith makes me cry
The Darling Son
By Stephan Smith
Where did you get the blood on your shirt? Son, please talk to me
It's only a stain from a game we play and play most harmlessly
Where did you get that gun in your hand? Son, please talk to me
I got it from the children's store of toys right down the street
Oh that there blood it is too real. Son, please talk to me
And that there gun is made of steel. My two eyes can see
Oh mother, true, you are no fool. Your two eyes can see
For the blood is of my friends at school I killed most vengefully
And mother, true, you are so wise. Your two eyes can see
For this here gun it is the one I did take with me
Oh where oh where did you get that gun? Son, please talk to me
I got it from your husband, mom, who rarely talks to me
But where did you learn to be so cruel? Son, please talk to me
I learned it in the books at school that taught me history
But where did you learn to kill my son? Son, please talk to me
I learned it from this great, great land that kills across the sea
What will you do now my darling child? Son, please talk to me
I'm going where the air is mild for all eternity
But, where will you go my only one? Son, please talk to me
I'm going far beyond the sun where no one's eyes can see

12. I worked as a PA for their show here in Denver a couple of weeks ago...
they put on a great show.

It was kind of a rock opera. Billie Joe had the whole crowd marching and singing in lockstep.

The crowd was shockingly young. A lot of them came with their parents...and yes I saw a lot of obviously RW parents with their mouths hanging open. Because of their youth I don't believe they were really understanding the whole thing.

It was obvious to me that they made the crowd a part of the story on stage. At one point it felt...um....I don't know how to say to this...but like one VERY jingoistic pep rally. Not that GD was being jingoistic, but the message I got was about the overall situation we find the world in.

Imagine "The Wall" meets Emo Punk.

When Billy Joe had the whole crowd marching and pumping their fists in unison...it sent chills up my spine. Unfortunately, I think very few in the crowd got the same message I did.

One long political statement.

A+ and two thumbs up.
