Clark's campaign manager quits! |
|
Just heard on the headlines on Democracy Now!
Wesley Clark's campaign manager quit amid frustrations that Gen. Clark was "not listening to the activists" who built up the grassroots support for his campaign, and instead was turning exclusively to the advice of Washington insiders.
Now, I'm an undecided, and I do think that Wes Clark would provide an excellent chance for beating Dubya. But this kind of news is NOT encouraging to me. I'm wondering what the assessment is from Clark supporters out there.

"Thanks for drafting me, now go away."
Sounds like a bad campaign slogan. Here's hoping they get the picture before the whole thing derails.

5. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the Clintons' influence... |
|
After all, they are the embodiment of "Washington insiders", and they appear to have anointed Clark as their chosen candidate, even if they haven't come right out and endorsed him....
Of course, I'm realizing I'll probably be flamed for even daring to question the motives/actions of the Clintons.

2. Not a Clark supporter but I can see the wisdom here.... |

While I don't think he should turn his back completely on that particular group, common sense tells me that a group of largely white, largely middle class internet users is not exactly the broadest base to be using to dictate the direction of your campaign. I've seen no sign that he is floundering or completely playing the schill game. If people don't think that the eventual nominee is going to have to walk a fine line betwen activists and insiders and play to both then they are sorely mistaken.

3. Reuters Has Different Spin |

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Wesley Clark's campaign manager quit on Tuesday after being asked to take a reduced role in the fledgling operation, two Clark campaign sources said.
Donnie Fowler left the three-week-old campaign rather than take over the political operation for Clark, whose early performance has been plagued by missteps, including his reversal over whether he would have supported a congressional resolution authorizing war in Iraq.
Fowler "was asked to take a lesser role but still an important role" but declined, one Clark campaign source said.
Fowler also had clashed with Clark advisers over the role of Internet activists who pushed Clark into the race through a draft movement. Their role has been eclipsed under the influence of some of former President Clinton's top advisers.
Campaign officials declined comment on Fowler's resignation.
Fowler, 35, had served as a field director in Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. He left the California-based organization TechNet to join up with Clark and was considered an ally of the draft Clark veterans.
