Fort Carson, mayor won’t back counseling program for veterans
http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1310872&secid=1

Colorado Springs military and civilian leaders have refused to endorse a program that will give free counseling to soldiers who don’t want the Army to know they have postwar mental problems.

Operation Just One, started by a former GI, seeks to pair up psychologists and counselors willing to work for free with soldiers and veterans needing care.

Fort Carson says the help isn’t needed and Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera on Thursday reversed an earlier endorsement.

Rivera said he disagreed with parts of a proclamation backers wanted him to sign that said combat stress causes family problems and can lead to sexual assault.

1. is he doubting this?
I personally know 2 people who've have screwups mentally, and who resorted to border-line insane things.

What an ass.

Support the troops, indeed!

2. Rivera is an unmitigated jackass.
It was better 10 years ago when the Republicans were beating the crap out of themselves and we had a RINO mayor. Now Marilou Makepeace only works for the Gay and Lesbian fund. She should be driving all over town reminding people how much more sane things were when she was mayor.

4. Jerks in a city full of them
Keep in mind Colorado Springs is the headquarters of Dobson and the Focus on the Family religious fascists.

The city has two flavors - fanatic religious fundamentalism and the military. Thank god the rest of the state appears to be more reasonable.

I don't even like to drive through it anymore, so I go miles outside my way to go south.

5. Colorado Springs is one of the most bigoted towns in the country.
Dodson and his followers try to make life hell for anyone different than they profess to be.
As for Ft. Carson, they will keep those soldiers files on their puters and out of the public eye. It's the way things are done. War is good, dontcha know?
