promises, that he can't deliver on.

Then, with a REAL reason, we can recall him.

He can't deliver a single thing he promised.

2. DUers should cool the recall talk for a time
Ya gotta give him a few months or there will be a very strong backlash. You need a reason to recall him. One based on his performance. You can't recall him because our guy lost.

Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 10:15 AM by rocknation
If he interferes with the lawsuit Bustamante filed against Enron (rememeber that mysterious reason with Ken Lay?) That needs to become California's new theme song: "WHERE'S OUR NINE BILLION, ARNIE?"

22. You are misinformed
You need a reason to recall him.

Yes, you need to be able to allege a reason.

One based on his performance.

Where did you get that idea?

You can't recall him because our guy lost.

Yes you can. You can recall him because you don't like him, or because your favorite baseball team lost, or because you feel like it.

You have to have "a reason" but the reason is not subject to review (by anyone) therefore any reason is sufficient legal grounds for a recall.

Please read all about it at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/.const/.article_2

If he groped women, then that was unwanted assault. Reason right there.

26. I agree... wait and let people see for themselves!
Ya gotta give him a few months or there will be a very strong backlash. You need a reason to recall him. One based on his performance. You can't recall him because our guy lost.

I totally agree.

One of my problems with the recall was that Governor Davis had not done anything wrong... in violation of his oath of office or illegal or whatever. The whole recall was, to someone who does not live in California, just a massive fit of temper.

Some of the freepers claim that they were misled about the Republican candidate in the 2002 election, but to me that simply indicates that the voters weren't doing their homework. They shouldn't blame the media if they believe that it pulled the wool over their eyes. They should blame themselves for being so easily fooled.

My hope is that the Democratic legislature in California tries to work with Arnold as much as humanly possible over the next few years. If they don't, you know he will blame any of his failures on them.

There is a lot of Republican anger out there, despite the fact that they are running the show nationally these days. IMO, the best cure for their anger is to give them the chance to learn the hard way. Let Arnold fall flat on his face.

I understand that many in California will suffer, especially those who are least able to manage. At the same time, thousands of terribly poor people migrated to California years ago in search of opportunity. Perhaps thousands will now reverse direction. It's one state... it's not the entire nation we're talking here. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see the Republicans forced to admit that even with everything going their way in California and all systems operating as they want them to operate, the Republican answers to their problems are no better, and in fact even worse than anything the Democrats ever did to them.

Really, I'm not one bit afraid that Arnold will succeed. California may be just the sorry example of Republican mismanagement we need to convince the rest of the nation that Republicans don't have the answers for the rest of the country either.

Short version of the above: Give them enough rope and let them hang themselves.

46. There is only one problem with this statement...
..."Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see the Republicans forced to admit that even with everything going their way in California and all systems operating as they want them to operate, the Republican answers to their problems are no better, and in fact even worse than anything the Democrats ever did to them."...

And the problem is : you will NEVER, EVER get the rethugs to admit that their economic and social plans are not right for this country, because they could not possibly care any less what you or any of the rest of us feel is 'right' or 'fair' - it's about the money, the power, and the consolidation of these two things into the hands of the chosen elite.

Period.

28. Some fights are worth fighting
Like in 2006. If Arnold is as a bad a Governor as you expect him to be, defeating him in 2006 should be a piece of cake. If he doesn't screw up between now and when the hypothetical recall election occurs (perhaps March) nothing will be gained except shwoing that he is popular.

29. Sorry, the rethugs are counting on your inaction
Florida, Texas, California, you're not seeing a pattern here.

An official start of a recall campaign now does two things. It shows what a Pandora's box the Rethugs have opened. It actually might work to keep Arnald from raping our state as he plans to do.

But I pretty confident we'll have plenty resons to recall Aunald in a month or two.

In the meantime if you don't want to sign the petition then fine. Just stay out of the way.

It's already started whether you like it or not. I'd say it take three to four months unless we get a sugar daddy like Issa to buy the signatures.Of course ultimately Aunald himself will help us.

But Aunald getting 80%. Wow!

No to the Recall 3,513,045

Aunald's votes 3,637,115

Key dates in California recall election:
* Nov. 5, 2002: Democrat Gray Davis elected to second term as governor.
* Feb. 5: Former GOP Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and taxpayers group People's Advocate announce separate campaigns to recall Davis. Goal is to collect 897,158 signatures to qualify measure.
* May 15: Republican U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa declares he'll run as replacement candidate. A week later, he donates $445,000 to an anti-Davis campaign.
* July 23: Secretary of State Kevin Shelley says recall has qualified after proponents turn in 1.6 million signatures.

17. Too soon Darrias
Its WAY too soon for us to pull a recall on the cyborg. If we do it NOW, it WILL fail miserably and look like just a partisan trick. We have to wait for him to fuck up or do something that is VERY objectionable before we can try to take him down. It is not just what we do, but HOW and WHEN we do it. That and we do NOT want to pulla recall on him, not just yet. Wait until the presidential election cycle ends in November of 2004, then we can slam him down for good. If we launch another recall now, it will also have the side benefit for BUSH of shifting the media's focus AWAY from his crimes and his coverups and his mistakes and lies. We HAVE to deal with Bush FIRST, then we can worry about cleaning up the little messes that he left behind once the main threat is eliminated.

the repukes pulled in California? Okay for them lie steal cheat change the rules and use whatever else they can find to marginalize us for purely political reasons, but we're seen as wackos if we try to fight back? I think the Texas Dems got a lot of support from around the nation for taking a stand against the crap the repukes are still trying to pull here. The pukes wanted California for various reasons and when they didn't win in 2002, they obviously had a back up plan and taking advantage of Davis' unpopularity coupled with the recall law on the books, was just a way of succeeding where an election didn't. They set the precedent for this, now they can deal with it.

25. No. Here's why.....

I sure as hell didn't support this recall nonsense, but it needs to STOP. Can CA really afford this again?

Too close to the Presidential election. As of right now, California will be a Dem state. We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by further irritating the people of CA. I'm talking gains and losses in National proportions.

Sadly, this recall wasn't even close. With public fatigue over this process, it's unlikely to succeed again.

Hypocrisy over the very idea of a recall. It'll kill us in the ballot box on EVERY election, from local to the BIGGIE.

It takes public attention off of "THE LEAk" and the mess in Iraq.

Peace. :dem:

I think it was useful talk during the election, but now I think we should turn our attention on maintaining our agenda and winning the public opinion to progressive ideas. I think that another recall would not be indicated here. We must defeat two reactionary initiatives in March, and better get our asses in gear. Furthermore, fighting Bush-Cheney should go to the top of the list, and we should do everything we can to undermine their political standing.

No, California voters threw a tantrum yesterday and many are going to start feeling pretty sheepish once they realize what they did. And to be honest, I don't envy Arnold at all, in fact we're probably better off with Arnold than a Democrat as Governor for the next year or so.

Governor Davis was a victim of the Bush Economy and former Governor Pete Wilson's back room dealings with the energy companies. Aunald will certainly not have any more luck dealing with the above and California's archaic legislative laws.

Cool heads might say wait and deal with the rethuglicans by sound reason and careful campaigning. Unfortunately the rethuglicans are winning the game with their ruthless tactics.

You can place nice and hope for better times. Meanwhile just stay out of our way.

Are you trying to KILL the Democratic party?

Don't you think it looks a little petty to be starting a recall TWO DAYS after the first recall?? I'm a staunch Democrat and I don't like this idea at all.

When did we become second graders???

No, the people of California made a choice, let them live with it.

I saw a short soundbite with Caroline Kennedy and a reporter when she was expressing pleasure at Arnies success. The reporter said, "But he is a Republican." Caroline gave a cat eating the canary smile and said, "Yes, but we're working on him."

Let's just wait and see how this plays out. The Kennedy's are not stupid, maybe there are things going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. Hell, for all we know, Arnie is POSING as a Repub.

Let's let this play out. I want to see where it leads.

48. OK, back to reality land
THIS recall was supported by the big boys at the White House and was funded by their favorite CA dupe, Darrell Issa, who shelled out $2 million of his own money RIGHT before the GOP said, "Thanks for your millions, now go away."

The Democratic Party is NOT repeat NOT behind another recall. It's the "give him enough rope" strategy and for once, I agree with the party's logic on this one. Let Schnicklgroper go down in flames. Let people's anger at incumbancy spread far and wide through November 2004.

Another poster already said it, we don't need attention on California. The recall circus already took valuable news time from the CIA agent outing and all the other stories that were just getting hot before we were distracted.
