YOU ARE NOT HELPING. This is the day after a devastating defeat that many of us worked hard on. Think about how it feels to be told to get over it.

13. Not from me!
I'm sorry if you took my post that way. I'm in awe of the progressive in So. Cal. It's much easier to make phone calls when you expect a Dem supporter. Much harder in So. Cal.

I'm glad you are on our side.

14. Not you, Cally.
I know you've never been a SoCal basher. But there have been posts the last few days that have been attacking SoCal that have just fried my ass.

My string is VERY short today and I didn't mean for that to come accross towards you.

3. No.
Think of how it feels for us to hear all of you claiming it's the end of the world.

We aren't offering advice to make you feel better, we are trying to get you to quit making us feel worse. You whine, we whine back, it's the way of the world. Detente.

Hope you feel better, though. We all know how emotional it is to work and not win.

5. AMEN!
I feel your pain, Cally. :)

Thank heavens for Jon Stewart, heh?

A little bon bon to help ease the pain: John Burton, he of the Burton/CA Democratic Machine, came out this morning and essentially laid the gauntlet down regarding Arnie. Said if Arnie thinks playing poltical ball is like playing Hollywood ball, he has another thing coming.

And anyone who knows ANYTHING about John Burton, knows he's not blowin' smoke. :)

You know, this could be fun.

28. Yep, "You know, this could be fun..."
I sure didn't feel like that this morning, and in a little fit of immaturity I defaced Arnold's picture on the front page of our morning paper, even though I knew my wife would be irritated with me (she always likes to take the high road), except she wasn't, after my son said "Heh, can I draw the horns, Dad?" which added a little much needed levity to our household...

I'm devastated for you myself. As I see it, though, the battle for California isn't completely over. That being the case, I'm going to suggest that you get pissed, and I mean ROYALLY PISSED and get ready to start a whole new battle.

See what you can do to help get voting irregularities checked out, see what it would take to recall this figurehead, start looking into the options you still have. Hang in there, above all else, don't give up all hope yet.

8. I'm tired of get over it people too
I agree with you calli, the get over it crowd does nothing for the effort, and those that sacrificed a lot of their time to stop this mess. I do wonder why the campaign didn't focus on the real reasons that you folks are in the mess that you are, like The Energy Ripoffs and Bush tellin you it was your problem.Or the fact that the Cali,...ooops sorry I mean Kalliefurnia, voters have mandated such a large portion of their state budget be spent on this and that, plus limiting the amount of taxes collected thru Prop13,leaving little wiggle room for budget manuvers.

I mean why wasn't the positive put out there that the deficit WAS 38 billion and is now 8?? This was a Starpower Election, with no real debate of issues and the voters went along with it. Unfortunately the Repubs already have a way out if he fails, which I believe he will,They will say he wasn't really a Republocan to begin with.

Aaarnold will learn the hard way just like Jessie Ventura did.It takes a lot more than starpower and hot air to work in the body politic,so have heart and hold on.Ever think about another recall??}(

21. Don't get over it, but MOVE ON
I can sympathize with you Calli. Back in the '80s, it seemed all we did was lose the big elections, even though we still won the local and congressional ones. Even here in MN, when Jesse "I ain't got time to govern" Ventura won in 1998, we still never lost hope, or the will to change things.

Now comes the time to move on. Still question voting irregularities, vote counts, etc., but don't consider this the end of the war. There are still MANY battles to be fought, and many to WIN. We are far from spent, and we've got nine excellent candidates for president to prove it.

If there's a bright side, maybe it will force the California Democratic Party to get back to its base and start promoting REAL DEMOCRATS for candidates, instead of the corporate apologists like Davis.

Even after this mess, people STILL want to vote "for somebody", as opposed to "against somebody". Give them a reason to vote for our candidate, not against the other guys' candidate, and you we WILL win!!!!

It will take a while to get over the stunned disbelief you are experiencing. I would suggest you sign off DU for a couple of days but write down your feelings and/or impressions. The thoughts and feelings you are experiencing today will be important in the months ahead.

California was just another "practice" for 2004. They got better in Georgia in 2002, and have almost perfected the craft of stealing elections with no proof that they did so.

34. I have never seen anyone so invested in a Governorship
and he wasn't very deserving of that emotional investment either. He should have quit when he had the chance. His campaign exploited vote theft paranoia, and womens issues, and didn't exploit anything that resonated with the voters.

20. posted this else where but I'll say it here too
"Calling it "whining'" "bitching"or "moaning" is dismissive labeling. Much of what is going on post election is as I look at it analysis, and introspection--things that are not happening enough in politics on both sides of the fence. Unfortunately, even Democrats also sometimes treat politics as if it were sports--my team versus your team, it's either win or lose, if you don't win this time get over etc., The whole thing gets to be a series of reactions to reactions. "

We must talk about it, think about it and maybe even have a good cry about it to learn about what's been happening for heaven's sake! This stoicism/macho attitude doesn't belong here.

Thanks for all your hard work, and I'm very sorry that we all had to suffer a really terrible and unfair defeat. I also feel very sorry for Gray Davis (who no one seems to give two shits about - sort of like the lack of empathy Gore seemed to get from Amerika after being cheated out of office) - he may not have been the greatest charmer on earth, but he was the only major governor to take on the big Enron energy company thieves - as well as the evil ChimpCo.

We will have our day though, so get that chin back up sometime soon. As devastating as this ridiculous recall ordeal was - whatever doesn't kill us, really does make us stronger.

29. Maybe I am a male, but saying that males don't get it doesn't work
I posted one of them "get over it" posts. Perhaps they were the intemperate words or they offended some. This is the problem exactly. To criticize to belittle is different from doing a critique to encourage people to maybe look at what went wrong and try to make it work. It is easy to see the problem with this in a few ways.

The biggest thing is when people have been attacked relentlessly they are automatically put in defense mode and lash out at anything that offends them. To that point I would offer apologies. What some might try to understand is how others use this tactic to gain the upper hand and even mend the very synapses in your brain to thinking this way. One needs look no further than Pavlov’s dogs.

I would like to make others aware when some people that others would see as weak minded people find places of others that they like to pounce on them for. Through this may help gain strength for the oppressed in the long run once they have overcome it. But it also in the long run it does not help others that depend on you for leadership and are being let down by such actions.

There are many here from what I can detect that are or could be leaders, they instinctively do things and are mostly immune from such attacks

If you find words threatening just remember some people only use words after they do their thing and you are not helping victims of people that use such actions. If you show strength people will follow

The person that some people feel angry about has shown much weakness. What I would like to point out is the supporters of such have shown even more, if you cannot understand this look at what they did and compromised to get their way. Then also look what they have to work with good and bad. It works both ways many times.

If freeper speak is "get over it" what would you prefer, "Find some intestinal fortitude", because it's never over and others must go on and still live their lives

my heart breaks for California, today. I lived in Tahoe City for 2 years - California is indeed the west coast home of my soul.

Get over it? The election was yesterday, for crying out loud. Would you tell a widow to get over it, the day after her husband died? Would you tell a rape victim to get over it, the next day? People here still miss Paul Wellstone - do you tell them to get over it???
This is a bitter loss, for all of us - especially our DU bretheren in California. :grouphug:

I wish the "get over it" crowd would try to remember how it felt to be told that in November/December of 2000.

One of the things that sets us apart from the right wing is our capacity to feel. Suggesting we stop feeling is akin to suggesting we just join the Republican party.

California DU'ers - I am so proud of all of you for all the hard work, and so sorry it turned out this way. Lick your wounds, and come out swingin.

35. Boo Hoo
You think this is the end of it? This is just a start of the 2004 strategy. All this does is put the levers of government in the hands of the GOP - just like Florida in 2000. By the end of the year, the full court press on dissent begins (maybe earlier, moved up by Rush's drug situation). Next summer, another invasion - maybe Syria, maybe Iran (not North Korea - administration doesn't care). This is a blip - but with 55 electoral votes, an important one, for Rove and company. Arnold will be a movie governor. No substance. No change, except bigger deficits.
