Everyone's favorite NewsMax: "Harry Reid Urged Miers Selection"

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/10/3/112632.shtml

Reid Urged Miers Selection

The expected political brawl over President Bush’s second Supreme Court nominee might not ever take place – because it was a powerful Democrat, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who had urged her selection.

The senator from Nevada first hinted that he thought highly of Miers shortly before Bush announced the nomination of John Roberts for a seat on the Court.

Bush phoned Reid to tout Roberts, and Reid took the opportunity to tell the president that had had enjoyed working with Miers, the White House legal counsel, during the search for a nominee.

A few days earlier, Reid had met with Miers and suggested ways to avoid a divisive confirmation process, according to a report published in August in The New Yorker magazine.

8. evidently, the right wingers don't like the pick, either.
Maybe Reid knew that she would go nowhere and she would split the conservatives and make them fight with each other.

7. I've wondered about the Dems. Do they have a plan to
rid us of the scourge of this administration? Are they all working under cover? If so, I would like to see the fruits of their plan. I am beginning to think the only thing that will save us if if the Repubs self-distruct to the point where Shrub and friends are impeached.

11. I think they are resigned to working with this crooked bunch
until the next congressional election. I doubt very much if most dem congresscritters are planning to impeach since we don't have the numbers to do so. I hope they are thinking about 2006 when we can get a majority, and then impeach!

2. Ooooooo-kay. Where's the urging to select whatshername?
Sounds like Reid thought she was effective as WH counsel and that's it.

12. Pretty much said the same thing about Roberts, then voted NO,
and quite vociferously.

Reid's a boxer, he knows the rope-a-dope.

6. "Enjoyed working with" does not equal "urged Miers selection."
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 10:50 AM by ET Awful
Hell, there are all kinds of people I "enjoy working with" but I sure as hell wouldn't urge their selection to the Supreme Court.

I think "enjoyed working with" is a euphanism for "I hate her repuke ass, but I'm trying to be diplomatic."

13. I think we need a DU Politicalese translator to go with the spell-check.
It really isn't that fine a point, even, but a great many here don't get it.

You are, of course, correct.

10. It does make one wonder who else was on the list.
Janice Rogers Brown? Alberto Gonzales? Ted Olson? Priscilla Owen?
