Homeless shelter has run out of food
I ran across this sad little article while browsing through the Texarkana Gazette:
------
Randy Sams Homeless Shelter is completely out of food, according to an American Red Cross official.

Nedra Turney, executive director of the Texarkana Red Cross, sent a fax indicating Randy Sams was empty of food as of 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

She said Randy Sams has been assisting both evacuees and nonevacuees in need of food. Donations of all types of nonperishable canned foods are appreciated. Turney suggested canned juice and meat products are two items in great need.

Randy Sams is located in downtown Texarkana on Spruce Street, across from the public library.

1. I'm a bit confused...
I did a google search for the Randy Sams Homeless Shelter (hoping to find a complete mailing address) but that addy differs from the one in the article. The Yahoo Yellow Pages list the addy thus:

Randy Sams Homeless Shelter
Address: 402 Oak St, Texarkana, TX 75501
Phone: (903) 792-7024

However, the article lists the addy as somewhere on Spruce Street. Can someone confirm so those of us wishing to donate have the proper mailing address?

Thanks!

2. Frustrating
I called the phone # listed at the Yahoo Yellow pages, (903) 792-7024 and got a recorded message that all inquiries should be directed to (903) 792-5392. I called that number twice and the phone isn't working (cover your ears unless you like the sound of mechanical screeching).

Can someone help us out here?

3. Maybe the second number is a fax machine.
Sometimes that happens when it is....the screeching. :)

4. My guess
I'm guessing the shelter doesn't have enough money to support a phone. I'm also wondering how much the newly homeless from LA are overwhelming the system.

5. Kicking for the evening crowd
And if anyone can confirm an address for this shelter I'd be grateful.
