Two Australians won the Nobel Prize in medicine today for a discovery that defied decades of medical dogma and revolutionized the treatment of ulcers. They showed that bacterial infection -- not stress -- causes ulcers in the stomach and intestine.

1. I'm so glad their accomplishment is recognized this way

They had to fight and fight and fight against the "medical establishment" to get doctors to believe bacteria caused those kinds of ulcers.

They deserve another Nobel Prize for all that trouble.

I had a student (sophomore) with an ulcer. Everyone assumed he was a closet smoker and coffee drinker).

He was mortified.
