Bush recoils from greatness (Pat Buchanan)

But her qualifications for the Supreme Court are non-existent. She is not a brilliant jurist, indeed, has never been a judge. She is not a scholar of the law. Researchers are hard-pressed to dig up an opinion. She has not had a brilliant career in politics, the academy, the corporate world or public forum. Were she not a friend of Bush, and female, she would never have even been considered.

What commended her to the White House, in the phrase of the hour, is that she “has no paper trail.” So far as one can see, this is Harriet Miers’ principal qualification for the U.S. Supreme Court.

1. Greatness Recoils From Bush
I think anybody with competence has got to think a Bush nomination is the kiss of death..except in jobs for life, perhaps, but he's not offering those to the competent. Nor anything paying a better-than-living wage, either.

I don't think "greatness" is a word that ever could be applied to *.

10. "The conservative movement has been had"
-- and not for the first time by a president by the name of Bush. "

Well. It's more than a little scary when I agree with these knuckle-draggers.

I feel dirty.

But it's worth it to hear them lose.

3. I am so sad for the many great jurists who deserved to be considered!
Another myth of the American Dream died today. You no longer can work hard, do a good job, and get nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. Now you just have to know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody....the good ol' boy network reigns supreme.

4. Bush's qualification to be Pres was that he “has no paper trail.”
Just a blank slate governor packaged by Karl and Karen.

5. While I think
the "outrage" of the right is primarily an act to attempt to pacify the left, I have to admit that this is the strangest nomination to the court in at least 100 years. There are an almost unlimited number of more qualified people, male and female, black, brown, red, yellow and white, liberal and conservative. It is as if Bush has nominated a lima bean for the position.

I could see how some conservatives, such as Buchanan, would view this as a cowardly choice by Bush.

6. Personally, I think Bush is just sick and tired of being President.
The work is too hard. He saw Bill Clinton laughing and having a good time, heck, even his Dad didn't take the job too seriously. The only difference was he got tired of it in his 1st term, and was voted out for lack of interest. Yeah, George likes flying around in his big plane, and going to rallies (after all he was a cheerleader) where everyone is cheering for him, but lately, the job is just no fun. His polls are down, way down; he actually had to get involved in the hurricane mess for goodness sake; the war is not going well, and so much for his social security legislation.

So I think he's going to start to take a mental vacation, not that he hasn't been on a metal cruise for a while now, and just kick back. He didn't want to think hard and have to make a tough decision, or get involved in a big fight with the Senate. So he nominated a friend, who used to be a Democrat. He know that no matter how much his base whines, they are not going to vote down his pick. And the Dems will give her a pass too. So he's rewarded another friend, avoided making a controversial decision, and now he can relax.

So he's thinking, I don't really care anymore, I've only got 3 more years in this job, I'm not running for anything else, so why the heck do I have to work hard anymore. All those congressmen will be mad at me because they have to get re-elected, but WTF, what have they done for me lately.

9. Get used to no paper trail you fucking isolationist freak!
Someone tell Pat that his 'peers' don't play by the same rules as he does. Pat, please realize that 2000 changed everything in this country. Why do you think they are putting suits on the SCOTUS? Just for the hell of it? No wonder Cheney is so happy. They didn't just pick anyone...they picked a Bush crony!
