E-Mail Response I Got From Selective Service Today |
|
HERE IS WHAT I E-MAILED TO SELECTIVE SERVICE YESTERDAY . . .
Subject: Question about an upcoming draft . . . not believing what I'm hearing
Everybody keeps saying "there will be no draft" and that the Selective Service exists just to monitor people for an all volunteer military. Well, in case you haven't noticed, nobody is volunteering and the United States is still warring. Where do you plan to keep getting soldiers from? Nobody is reporting on what is going on. It seems the media has been gagged. They keep giving out numbers that are unrealistic. Okay, about 2,000 American soldiers dead, about 150,000 still fighting. Rumor has it that there are 45,000 or so that are unable to fight because they are injured and mentally incapable. Some soldiers have had their tours of duty extended repeatedly. Nobody knows what is going, but some things are just common sense. Seems like the supply of willing and able soldiers has been exhausted....so what next???? Why won't anybody tell America the truth about what is going on? The only way we are finding out is when one of our surviving soldiers comes home and speaks out. HELLO!!!
HERE IS THE RESPONSE I GOT BACK FROM SELECTIVE SERVICE TODAY. . .
We appreciate your concerns and understand their sources. However, since the Selective Service System does not make policy and only carries out the mission given it by Congress, you would be better advised to express those concerns to your local congressional representative. Those who have the power to alter the present policy -- the President,Congress, and Secretary of Defense -- have said repeatedly that a military draft is not needed.
Thank you for writing. XXX XXXXX Public Affairs Specialist
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! Oh well, I was surprised I even got an e-mail back.

2. That's a perfectly legitimate response |

the Selective Service job is the run the draft when asked. They haven't been asked to do so, and they certainly are under NO obligation to answer your concerns personally.
That being said, your congressman/senator has EVERY obligation to answer the questions you have brought up, but I imagine you'll get a very similar response from them as well. That would piss me off!
Getting ignored by Selective Service wouldn't, it's not their job to worry about your concerns, just as the IRS wouldn't answer a letter about the upcoming military draft.
