This is why Democrats lose...(Miers)
We have absolutely no proof that Miers isn't a conservative...sure, she gave to Gore like 20 years ago, but that doesn't mean much!

The conservatives are in an uproar because she isnt conservative enough. Despite the fact that she's more than likely pretty conservative, and totally loyal to Bush, and has Cheney defending her as a "conservative jurist" - they are NOT taking that as an answer. They are demanding more.

They don't accept less. They don't negotiate. And, that's why they win.

We're more lax..."at least she's not as bad as Scalia" is our standard. Why are WE accepting less!? Why are we so willing to negotiate?

We do this on every issue...and that's why they continually frame the political debate and we are just responders, giving in to their demands.

Democrats have continually given in and negotiatead - so much so that now "liberal" pretty much just means a Centrist. They've moved the political balance far to the right, so anything to the left of that far-right seems "looney left"

We MUST reposition things!

1. Democrats DON'T lose
And the only way we can be clear that we didn't is by not repeating this lie over and over and over again.

2. For heaven's sake!

Democrats DON'T LOSE. They are not "LOSERS". They have won elections in the past! And the main reason they have sometimes lost is because the States is full of republicans!

5. And how did the states get to be so full of Pukes? Milquetoastism
Too many Dems feel they have to be "nice" all the time. So while they are sitting there fumbling around for "nice" retorts, the Pukes have set the tone, dished out their talking points, and on. And since they are actually SAYING something and have an AGENDA--however sick, twisted and vile it is--people listen to them. Its politics. Its ugly most of the time. The way to get voters on your side is not be bend over and ask for more. The way is to get a message, set the tone for debate, and grow a pair.

17. Oh with THAT I agree

Certainly where Milquetoastism pops up it should rightly be pointed out, I just think a little discernment is required when deciding when its Milquetoastism and when it's a Lost Cause. I just get fed up with Milquetoastism being conflated with this image of the Dems as "losers"... I don't think being nice all the time makes you a "loser", I htink it makes you a nice person. I think having to face down people properly instead of plying nice all the time is different from overcome "loserishness" I think of a loser as someone who doesn't even TRY anything...

4. The issue of a Supreme Court nominee is not about winning or...
losing. A sitting president gets to nominate to the Supreme Court whether they are Republican or Democrat. The two openings came up while a Republican is in the White House. If there is nothing criminal or extreme in Miers past and if she passes all of the questioning from Congress as to her capability, then she will be appointed. I don't see that as the Democrats being losers, it is just the way our system works.

6. Do you propose
Giving each Democratic Senator two votes instead of one? Otherwise I'm not sure how your "never compromise! take no prisoners!" approach gets past that pesky problem of math. You can't compare the Republican strategy in the Senate to the Democrat because one has a majority and one doesn't. They don't win because they are more uncompromising and steadfast. They win, for the time being, because they have more votes.

7. president GETS to PICK the scj. doesnt matter what repugs rant
and rave about they will get her, equally doesnt matter what dems say about it. that is why we didnt want bush to win. we knew he would get to pick the judge. for all of us, regardless if all of us dont like it

blame the dems? sure, cause that is just so easy

maybe this will be WHY the repugs lose. cause bush inevitably makes poor choices, in EVERYTHING and eventually the repugs are going to have to say it out loud.

had a handful with iraq, a handful with bolton, a handful with katrina, and now we will have more repugs saying it with this pick

not the dems. all bush

8. Although Miers looks like less of an issue than Roberts did...
I can't help but believe that much of why Democrats are so eager to support her has to do with the very fact that the radical right is enraged. It's kind of like, "hey that pisses them off, so let's support it" type of deal.

12. Exactly! And this is extremely faulty thinking.
We are letting the Republicans determine what an acceptable/not acceptable SC justice is instead of applying our OWN standards and values.

It's plain stupid to say, "wow the Republicans hate her so she's cool with me!"

Where is the OPPOSITION PARTY??????

9. They won on Roberts??
They didn't like him either. I don't see them winning on any of this, at least not that they know. What's really happening is centrists are being duped.

11. Imagine if you will
President Clinton nominated HIS personal attorney to the extreme court. Do you think the rethugs would take it lying down and the nominee would pass, NOT a chance. This is supposedly what the "opposition" has been "keeping their powder dry for", they'd better do it. After five eternally loooooooooooooong years of their rolling over and enabling they had better.

14. We need to fight dirty
Dems have lost the last two prez elections for many reasons: ie
Money. Gays, God and guns. Clinton's blowjob. Racism. Swiftboating, etc.
If we are not prepared to bring every disenchanted, downtrodden, disenfranchised, moderate, conservative, liberal, fringe, radical, and all concerned Americans into our camp and play dirty (fighting fire with fire), we will never take the country back from the neocons.

...skinnin' and grinnin' his ass off...These knee-pad queen Democrats make me SICK. They cowed to the Bush regime with Roberts; why should ANY of us believe they will do a damn thing to block Miers?

Ship ALL their asses in 2006...RE-ELECT NOBODY!!!

16. We lost because no one was willing to take it to the streets in 2000.
Are you ready? Will leading Dems do this? No, it will never come to this. Republicans are firmly in charge and seem focused on stealing everything they can get their grubby hands on.

This is kinda good because we see the first true row between the Legislative and Executive branches. Maybe this will be what we need to divide them totally.

Gore remained silent in 2000 while he watched HIS presidency fade into the sunset...ironically he decided his own fate as VPOTUS. He sure didn't help any minority Rep nor did a single Senator.

Dems are in some serious trouble right now, I hope Pelosi and Conyers can get their party in order and soon.
