David Schuster rips Faux - Confirms they wouldn't go after Bush
<snip>

When asked whether he would have had that opportunity while working at Fox, Shuster laughed, remained silent for a pregnant pause and said, "No. The answer is no."

He went on to recount his six-year tenure at Fox. "At the time I started at Fox, I thought, this is a great news organization to let me be very aggressive with a sitting president of the United States (Bill Clinton)," Shuster said. "I started having issues when others in the organization would take my carefully scripted and nuanced reporting and pull out bits and pieces to support their agenda on their shows.

"With the change of administration in Washington, I wanted to do the same kind of reporting, holding the (Bush) administration accountable, and that was not something that Fox was interested in doing," he said.

"Editorially, I had issues with story selection," Shuster went on. "But the bigger issue was that there wasn't a tradition or track record of honoring journalistic integrity. I found some reporters at Fox would cut corners or steal information from other sources or in some cases, just make things up. Management would either look the other way or just wouldn't care to take a closer look. I had serious issues with that."

7. Who? Who specifically did this? "others in the organization would take
my carefully scripted and nuanced reporting and pull out bits and pieces to support their agenda on their shows. "

I want names. It is a propaganda outlet and I'd love to make it so the Republicans and Faux News itself can't deny that anymore.

For some reason the name "Brit" keeps popping into my head.

12. Why bother?
1. Faux already knows.

2. Faux doesn't care.

Hell, we had "Outfoxed," what, two years ago? Did it hurt their ratings?

They're in it for the money, and they've got that.

Nevertheless... kicked and nominated.

15. I know David Shuster's Dad !!
That makes me nearly famous, right? His dad came to a talk I gave about the theft of the 2004 election and kept saying that I should talk to his son, but I didn't know who he was or who David was either. It dawned on me after I saw Shuster's entries on the MSNBC blog. I did send him stuff - but he did not reply... He and Keith Olbermann couldn't bring down the Bush Crime Family alone.

If you can get ahold of the DVD 'Control Room', check out the extra material on the DVD -- there is a scene with David making fun of the national anchor for pronouncing Qatar 'Gutter'.

Go David!

matter which party is in power. Thank you David Schuster. Too bad Fox news is too committed to partisanship.

The re..puke..licans seem to come on as the bad guys in the black hats. I have seen more sincere and skilled actors in grade school plays. After 5 years some folks that hug the republican may be gaining a little intelligence. They may be slipping away. Do you suppose Fox could find it necessary to try and grow their base viewers?

35. No, They Won't
However, someone with a iota of intelligence at CNN or MSNBC will finally figure out there's MONEY to be made if they lean as far left as Faux leans right. The 20% who think CNN is the Clinton News Network are equally offset by the 20% who wouldn't watch Faux at gunpoint.

Eventually, someone will convince the corporate masters and beancounters that they are missing a cash flow opportunity.

I liked the wind up at the finish:
He acknowledged that likely never would have happened at Fox, a network that neither his father, Arnold Shuster, nor his mother, Susan Klein, supported. "My parents always wondered why it took me so long to get out of there," he said. "I wonder, too."

"I've Never Asked For Any Fight:" David Shuster Warns FNC Not To "Start A Battle"

A few days ago, MSNBC correspondent David Shuster said he left Fox News because the network lacked a track record of honoring journalistic integrity and wasn't interested in holding the Bush administration accountable. Then a Fox source called him "disgruntled and bitter," and quoted from his confidential HR file. Shuster felt compelled to respond.

"If I want to do a hit job on Fox News, everybody at that organization knows that I could tear them apart," he tells TVNewser. "Everybody there also knows that it would be a severe mistake to try to start a battle with me. Roger Ailes, John Moody, and the rest of management knows that I would do far more damage to them than they could ever do to me."

"However, I've never asked for any fight with them," he continued. "I still have great friends at Fox News on the air and off, and I think they will see the interview with my hometown paper as what it is -- as a candid explanation to friends about the course of my career and why I've made the decisions I have.

30. A chink in the armor, but there are much stronger forces at play
which Schuster would have to contend with if he wanted to fight them. Forces like a Saudi Royal Family:

Rupe gets a royal boost
Saudi prince comes to Murdoch's aid

By JILL GOLDSMITH

Rupert Murdoch has found his white knight -- or, let's say, his prince.
Billionaire Saudi royal Al Waleed bin Talal announced Tuesday he's boosted his stake in News Corp., shifting from nonvoting to voting stock in a move that bolsters Murdoch against a possible raid by John Malone.

The news buoyed shares of the giant media conglomconglom, which rose 2.26% to close at $17.21.

31. Great guy, great integrity. Tho I don't agree with his take on the media
He stated in the article, and will be speaking about, how the media reports based on the public's mood about an Administration. While I see that it would seem to be happening right now, as the media is being a bit more critical of Bush.. but the media obsession with taking Clinton down was at a time when Clinton was still wildly popular with most Americans and only villified by the GOP funded Rush types. It was the skanky media put in place to actually take Clinton down that changed many people's opinions of him.

I suppose Shuster was speaking in context of a normal, healthy, media... not the likes of Fox, Rush, Liddy, and the howlin' heads of political TV.

I do not think the media likes good times. There may not be much new in times of prosperity...the Clinton years. Some folks are unhappy in good times. How many decades will pass before we see a tranquil period like the 90s?

36. BB&T Bank branches in NC playing FOX News
This is the letter I just sent to the Chairman & CEO of BB&T, advising him I had written our local paper complaining about FOX News being played in the bank. Can you imagine working there? What a great way to brainwash all your employees!

I have just sent the following letter to the editor of the Chapel Hill News:

Editor:
I recommend "Raspberries" to BB&T for their corporate decision to install televisions behind the counter of branch banks (Elliott Rd & Franklin Street) tuned to FOX News. The first time I encountered it, several weeks ago, I thought it was due to keeping people informed of Hurricane Katrina. This morning I went inside and discovered the set on and still tuned to FOX News. I voiced my utter displeasure at being subjected to what I consider propaganda, just to do business at the bank. I considered going out, getting in my car, and driving around to the drive-thru to avoid the distasteful garbage being spewed from that idiot box! Later, I discovered while chatting with my hairdresser that BB&T has installed televisions, tuned to FOX News, in other town branches (Hillsborough) as well!
A pox upon FOX and BB&T!

The idiot box does not need to be perpetually present anywhere. Subjecting your bank customers to the right-wing political propaganda that is the staple of FOX News
is justification for me to never set foot in a branch again. I thoroughly resent the intrusion
and were it not for the hassle of changing banks, I would do it posthaste. Instead, I will simply recommend to anyone I meet opening new accounts, that they take their banking business elsewhere.

41. Banking
You're right that it's a horrible hassle to change banks. But, if you want to get a message through to these people-- that people don't like being bombarded with right-wing propaganda when they're depositing their checks-- do it. Open your new accounts, get new checks, so on and so forth, and when all that is done, then close your accounts and tell them why you're doing it.

I was upset with my old bank for other reasons, and when I closed my accounts and took my savings elsewhere, I told them exactly why. The only thing some people understand is dollar signs, so if you want to hit 'em where it hurts, you have to take your money out of their possession.
