Texas Redistricting - a letter to the San Antonio Express-News
Editor,

After three special legislative sessions, after changing the voting rules so they could win, after involving the federal Department of Homeland Security, after imposing sanctions and levying fines against Democratic Senators for the crime of visiting Albuquerque during a legislative session, the Republicans in the legislature can't reach an agreement on redistricting.

It's just like thieves fighting over the spoils. Where do you suppose Republicans in the legislature could possibly have picked up the idea that redistricting is all about throwing your weight around and getting your own way?

1. Thanks.
I think that more attention needs to be paid to what's going on here.

Like the recall election in cali, this is a trend that is just beginning. Also, Senator Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio reported that when she returned to Austin (after "dick-mire" bailed on them) a republican senator told her that if the "killer d's" "were going to act like Mexicans, you will be treated like Mexicans."

How's that for a minority voice?

4. Yup
The "Mexicans" quote was in today's paper. To be fair, two Democrat senators who were there (Zaffirini and Madla, both of whom have been prominent and vocal "killer d's") denied that the remark was made. But then, the conversation was in a lounge where all remarks are supposed to be completely confidential, so Zaffirini and Madla may just have been trying to stop Van de Putte from breaching protocol.

BTW, the official nickname is "Quitmire."
