Commander in Chief: Gen. Warren Keaton = Gen. Wesley Clark?
Sounds like the character is at least loosely based on Gen. Clark. What do you guys think?

It seems to fit. Both won a war without losing an american life, both are smart, and both are apparently democrats.

57. I didn't see the show...
but it sounds like Gen Clark to me...which could be a good or a bad thing, I guess, depending on how it plays out. Makes me want to watch the show to see, though, and I had no intention of watching it before.

My young nephew, who did watch the show, said the character was "more offensive...blunt in a rude sort of way" than Clark though. Wes is ever the gentleman.

I do like the "not a duplicitous bone in his body" line. :)

All in all, I think it's pretty cool.

Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 09:28 PM by porter
Twice that I noticed, he used the typical Clark style (example last night with O'Liely; "It's a three legged stool, first.....")of pointing out three things and referring to them as, first-second-third or number one, two and three.

There is also the name Warren/Wesley, Keaton/Kanne. Also, just a very slight hint of a southern accent.

49. Isn't the Sutherland character in the same party as the Pres?
In the first show they wanted her to step down so he would succeed the dying president?
Or am I missing the boat here?

Either way, he plays that part well, a real evil mofo . . . prototypical Repub, for sure.

The Sutherland character is a repub.

Yeah, he can do anything & always does it well. I thought he was fantastic in Backdraft as the maniacal arsonist. Seemed so innocent until he started talking about fire.

15. Yes.
Refering to the oval office, he said that that he had been there a couple of administrations ago to give a President a tongue lashing about his targeting in the Balkans.

The recordings of the debate were the type of things that Clark said in the debates.

33. The economics background reference
is the thing that sounds the best. It's the part of General Clark's CV that gets overlooked most. Tragic as it might seem a TV show with a character that mirrors Clark's qualifications could be just the sort of thing that'll help him get more recognition.

Now we just have to hope that the writers aren't Repubs who script it so that General WFK (hey, how 'bout them initials for connotations?) turns out to be a dead loss or a fraud.

Oh, and I've gotta hope that some Aussie network decides to show it, too :-)

The new Geena Davis show on ABC.

She plays the first female president. She is an independent who was selected to run with a repuke as his VP. He dies 2 years into office and although the repuke speaker of the house wants her to resign so he can become prez, she decides to stay. She is now the prez and in the 2nd episode she needs to pick a vp. She chooses the guy who was her opponent (on the Dem ticket) to be her VP. This guy's description sounds just like Clark.

I'm betting (as someone else said) there is a Clark supporter on the writing staff.

27. I don't remember. My gut says that someone involved with this show
likes Clark and modeled a character after him.

I would think if Clark were involved in creating and writing a show, it would be based on his life in the military.

Just a guess though since I have no idea.

38. The actor Peter Coyote (I think that's the spelling)
He's playing the part and it looked like he had studied Clark's
actions, way of talking, etc. This character is so Wes Clark,
so obvious and by the way, he will be a good guy on the show.
Sutherland is the bad guy (not in real life of course).

otherwise, I have been trying to drop all watching of the networks as much as possible, and will not. (If anyone connected with the show is watching... I am down to ONE network show now -- Wes Wing -- so if you want to grab me as a viewer of this show, confirm this character, and you've got me!)

Sounds good, though! I can't imagine Coyote doing Clark. DId they gray up his hair?

53. I wasn't thinking Gen. Clark...
He was a good solid character to legitimize her presidency.

What I like better is that she is an independent and doesn't answer to either party. She doesn't think she could win an election as president and doesn't have anything to lose so she'll do what's best for the American people. That's an attitude I really wish we had in the WH.
