To fellow Greens, PLEASE don't run a presidential candidate. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 05:16 PM by Cascadian
We cannot afford to front a nominee for president. Not now.
We are in the most critical period in the history of the country. We must stand behind one man who can and will most likely beat George W. Bush. In my view, Howard Dean is that man.
While there are many of you who support Dennis Kucinich, a man who I have huge respect for, I respect your decision, but realistically, he is not going to get the Democratic nomination. We all need to support a man considered an outsider and is as close to a straight-shooter as you can get. This is not the time to be devisive. Being divided over partisan passions is what Karl Rove and the righties want. The time has come to rally behind Dean and get Bush's ass back to Texas or hopefully The Hague on war crime charges.
This goes for all Socialists or any other third party people. Please give Howard Dean your support despite what you may have thought of or think of him. He is the best chance we have against the Right-wing neo-cons.

1. We're discussing that very issue in the Greens forum now, in fact |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 05:19 PM by Mairead
There's one poster who's in it for the party affiliation rather than the results, so that's one vote lost.
I'm trying to advocate for the GP officially endorsing Dennis
(edit)
Oh dear, I just finished reading your post. Your plea to be 'non-divisive' is a bit thin, don't you think? Dean doesn't even come close to being a Green-type candidate. Not even close.

6. Actually, John, I don't think *I* understand why your dad couldn't go in |
|
But I'm glad you both got to meet Dennis. It will indeed be something to tell your kids in later years.

I cant explain exactly and all but the cool thing is that we met him. I think the people got to wake up and see what this man is all about, unfortunely as we know many Americans get their news from TV and we all know how often Dennis is mentioned in the news media :eyes:.

8. I support Dean because he is the only viable candidate. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 05:55 PM by Cascadian
It is not a question of Green or Democrat, I support him because he is the only one in my view who has a realistic chance of winning.
Obviously, the entire country is not left or green. Anybody who disagrees with that fact is delusional. This is the reality. Dean has the ability to be a true uniter. Sure he is centrist. I can see that. We need a uniter now! we must set aside our differences right here, right now.

3. You are asking people.. |
|
to put your party over their principle...I dunno. The best way to pull the greens and socialists on board is to nominate someone who can rally them to join us voluntarily...not to point fingers and trash them in the debates I've seen on so many of these threads.

10. The principle I put before all else is that it's better to lead |
|
than to be in opposition, and you're doing everyone who lives on the margins or who has something to lose a big disservice if you're willing to put first the notion that there's something noble in sending a message and losing.
I guess, if pushed, I'd admit that there are times when the opposition isn't that bad, and it might be worth the risk in taking the chance that someone really really liberal might beat a moderate in a climate which allows it.
But there's nothing moderate about Bush and I don't think there's much about this climate that'll allow a Green or Kucinich to win (and I don't think Dean's the right kind of liberal for these times).
Right now there's a huge threat that we'll slipping into a fascist state, and it's not the time to be sending messages without politicians attached to them to Washington.

4. Kucinich is a better choice than Dean for serious progressives |
|
So long as the primaries are going, that's the case.

5. Is it too soon to ask what happens if Dean isn't nominated? |

7. Is it appropriate to ask |
|
Why people think its already sealed. It aint, frankly that bothers me. Yes I know my candiate aint doing well in the polls but you know, anything can happen and Dean supporters know that well, but still, we dont know whats gonna happen between now and the convention, I think theres a poll where only a third of the people can name a candiate. I say again, they all got a chance, and I hope the greens do vote democrat in 2004 and I hope they get someone like Kucinich to vote for. Just my bias above as a Kucinich supporter but I think he's a good man who can win.

11. You raise a good point, John |
|
And anyone who takes the polls as gospel has an agenda or needs help.
When Dennis raises more money in a quarter than someone like Kerry does (and I think that was the case this last quarter, wasn't it?) but Kerry gets all the poll numbers and press, then something is broken somewhere.

12. Agreed, if DK was all over the news tonite |
|
People would start coming around and supporting him in masses.
It's disgusting how much we're letting the media tell us whose going to win.. AND WE GO ALONG.. "Ok Ok, so Clark and Dean, I have to choose since those are the only 'frontrunners' I've seen."
That's the sort of behavior thats disencouraging.
Anyways, I'm in full support of DK for as long as I can take it. Stand by your candidate.
