About Miers' Religion and her Boyfriend |
|
When I heard that she was dating that Texas lawyer/judge (whatever) way back when and that she came to him with her wanting to embrace Christ, blah, blah, lightbulbs snapped in my mind. That indicates that the "boyfriend" was the religious fundie---and may I suggest that she might have been doing this to a) get laid, b) get a marriage proposal from him??? Now, it would be interesting to find out post-boyfriend and either not getting laid/or married how many times she has attended this church. Is she a "I have to go twice on Sunday and three times during the week person". Or is she just on their roles and dishes over money once in awhile and shows up maybe for holidays. There's 'religion' and then there's 'religion'. I'd like to know how devout she is because that could be the key to alot. If she isn't terribly devout than maybe she's more into women and minority rights and abortion rights than even Bush (whom she probably leads around by the nose) knows.

Many mainstream lutherans, methodists, episcopalians, etc. include 'evangelical' in their name...which often takes the form of sharing their religion via overseas missions.
Fundamentalists are the real zealots who believe every word of the bible LITERALLY.

15. Oh, don't sell the fundies short... |
|
They are even more aggressive about imposing their delusions on others.
I think it's you can be evangelical without fundamentalism, but a fundie is always evangelical.

3. Here is a story from Yahoo |
|
about her new "church". I am not holding my breath about abortion rights. WASHINGTON - Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is among a group of congregants of a Dallas evangelical church who recently broke away due to differences over church rules and worship styles. <snip> The church opposes abortion and Hecht indicated that Miers shares those views, including the belief that life begins at conception. "It was Harriet thinking things through on her own," Hecht said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051005/ap_on_go_su_co/miers_church_1;_ylt=AmECaFfAB0IPfspLCuhjDY9uCM0A;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

5. BUT WAIT!!!!!!! There's MORE!!!!!!! |
|
Her church CHANGED THEIR WEBSITE right after her nomination!!!!! See the original and new versions at the link within the text, here: http://thinkprogress.org/2005/10/06/miers-church-website/...the Valley View website features a list of theological principles held by church leaders and parishioners. For instance, one reads, “We believe in the universal Church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all born again persons are members.”
But according to a Google cache retrieved earlier this summer, the list was altered recently to remove statements on four controversial issues that may come before the Court: abortion, homosexuality, evolution/creation, and euthanasia. Here are the four:
--Abortion: “We believe that life is sacred. It begins at conception and should be held in respect. Abortion to us is the taking of innocent life and should be condemned.”
--Homosexuality: “We believe that God created man and woman for celibacy or a monogamous relationship. Homosexuality is a perversion of God’s design and is condemned by Him in the Scriptures. We love the homosexual but denounce the behavior.”
--Evolution/Creation: “We believe that God created this world in 6 days, that He created man in His own image, for fellowship with Himself.”
--Euthanasia: “We believe that God is sovereign. Man does not possess the judgment nor the right to determine when one’s life should end. Euthanasia is man assuming God’s sovereign role and therefore, must be rejected.”Isn't that SPECIAL?????

But euthanasia and choice seem to be on shaky ground, if she can't separate her law from religion....
The right tends to ignore that THOU SHALT NOT KILL, preferring to use the old EYE FOR AND EYE business to justify strapping people into old Sparky, or putting them to sleep like a terminally ill dog.

10. So what? She flys from Wa to Tx for church every Sunday? |
|
How else could she be a constant participant, with the Texas Church, since she is in WA always scrambling to cover her bosses screwups? Just wondering...

18. Hello.. I don't know how to put "all" in the reply to... |
|
I was actually just putting a ?? out on the table, to anyone who felt like answering it. I guess I should have put "all" in the reply line. As I have been here a little short of a year I have yet to learn how to do that.
On another note, as an Evangelic myself (one of the REAL ones, not part of those who have hijacked the name and movement), I am bothered by the fact that it is being reported that Miers is a "tithe-paying member" of her church.
That publicly boastful claim goes totally against true evangelic belief and practices, indeed the Bible clearly instructs that we are to give privately.. "But when you give money, let not your left hand see what your right hand is doing" (matt 6:3)
But! Take heart, Dear Folks. The Bible also teaches that if our good deeds (charity, tithes, kindnesses etc) are done and boasted about before our fellow men, rather than kept private, such action will strip away any heavenly reward for indeed the person is boasting and using their supposable good deeds for their earthly benefit:
"Be careful that you don't do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven." (matt 6:1)
So while it appears that Ms. Miers has tithed to her church, it is inappropriate for this information to be used to further her opportunities here on earth. That is to say that if she is a True Christian who really has a spirit for God, supporting her church with a pure heart, she should at this very moment be mortified how those around her are using this very private spiritual issue to further her career.
Yet, where is Miers protesting this information being made public??
