Do you think the Right Wing will derail the Meirs nomination? |
|
George Will, Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, and Trent Lott are among those on the right who are skeptical about the nomination of Harriet Meirs. Is it possible that they see Bush as increasingly vulnerable and that unless the extreme right gets fed red meat--mainly an undisputed far rightwinger with a track record to boot--nominated to the court that their base will sit out '06?
I think it's possible that the rightwing in the GOP might oppose Meirs as a warning to Bush that when she withdrawls (Dems will oppose her because she isn't qualified or doesn't have a track record) he better give the base what it wants--a real Nut job for the Supreme Court--so that their base will not sit on their hands in November, 2006.

2. But how would Chimpy respond to such disloyalty? |
|
I actually think it would drive him away from them. He then might appoint someone else they didn't like just to show them he is the boss and they are not.

The GOP should oppose this woman. She has no qualifications for the job to begin with for God's sake!
The GOP will only weaken themselves by going along with this, as this woman, well any PERSON that thinks that * is, to paraphase, the smartest man even known to me ... they are in need of psychiatric help.
Furthermore, this woman is nothing but another * shill and EVERYONE knows it!
So go ahead, confirm this born again right-to-life "Christian" anyway and let the SCOTUS loose any credibility that might be left. SCOTUS had been on thin ice since 2000 anyway. Let them rot in their own stink.

5. I want to know when the trial is coming. |
|
In short order * will have had his two positions on the Supreme Court in place. Now the rabid hate-filled fundies are going to want the court case brought before the court. The plan to launch the challenge has got to be in the works.
What I want to know is when do DUers expect this case to reach the court. If you were a powerful anti-choice player, you would want this case to have the quickest route to the Supreme Court. You would want absolutely no delays now that the all the wishes regarding the Supreme Court have come true.
So when will the case reach the Supreme Court? The fury behind it all demands that the case should already be in the system.

6. Where is the DU oddsmaker??? hey we need a bookie over here! |
|
What are the odds that this is all a ploy to get Brown the nomination? Certainly meirs, who has called * the smartest man she's ever met, would willingly be a pawn in such a machiavellian scheme.
I'm looking at the ol' DU tote board now, thinking about jumping in at 3:1.
