Now that GAT, NAFTA and the like have had a chance to show their true colors, ie., what is actually taking place apart from all the glowing hyperbole that precedes such social agreements. I would like to add my observations to the mix. These are merely observations and opinions and in no way offer any facts to the subject(I thought I'd try what the right wing has been doing for years and see if there's anything to it).
First, let us agree, that the Labor movement in this country is ebbing at an all time low. There are signs of life ahead as the true nature of who is actually running this country begins to find the light of day. However, suffice it to say so now, that Labor finds itself at a crossroads in its movement to arm the American worker.
With the implementation of the aforementioned treaties, we are now beginning to see the motive behind their implementation. IMHO they were constructed and designed by "business people and corporate minded individuals" for the exploitation of an untapped human resource, ala, the rest of the undeveloped world.
By opening the borders(in the name of Free Trade)these undeveloped countries have opened themselves to the abuses that were the norm in America in the early days of the Industrial Revolution. Child labor, unsafe working conditions, unequal pay, unregulated work schedules, unfair management practices, workers rights, it goes on, but you get my drift.
If Labor wants to find a cause, perhaps, they should begin to look outside their own borders. I mean, let's face it, that's where most of the jobs are going anyway. It's time that Labor begin to educate the rest of the world about what we have learned in this country when it comes to fair labor practices. The main reason so many of these jobs are leaving this country is due to the fact that corporate America hates to have to deal with the American worker. It's the bottom line, my friends, and the American worker messes with the bottom line.
I think the Labor movement has to go global. To bring the rest of the world of workers into the understanding of what we have discovered in America. That we are a resource in ourselves and we have wealth in our numbers. The hive is nothing without its worker bees. Do you think the drones give a crap that there is a Queen? Not as long as they get their time with her. It's nature teaching us how to maintain a healthy work environment.
We need to create a world within labor that makes exploitation of the rest of the world's labor force inviable for corporate interests. Labor needs to become educators in these countries. This is an untapped resource for Labor as well as corporate interests. It's no longer just about us anymore.
WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!
