Coming up on CNN: Why some think the flooding was intentional
Conspiracy theories

It'll be on right after the commercial break, so they say. I can't stay and see it though, because I have to get back out to work now. Check it out if you're around a tube.

1. it WAS intentional
If by 'intentional' you mean there were intentional policies of neglect for decades, ignoring problems which many people in harms way were screaming about.

Intentionally ignoring studies showing the levee's were insufficient.

Intentionally removing funding from the levee's year after year after year, from the federal budget.

Intentionally installing "Brownie" into his position in FEMA for which he was completley unqualified.

Intentionally doing nothing to improve our homeland security in case of a massive attack on an American city.

2. It has happened before
In NOLA, in the early 1900s, they intentionally broke the levee in NOLA to flood the poor (read: Black) section of town to avoid the rich (read white) section of town from being flooded. I believe that it is entirely possible they did this again, given our current culture of hate and corruption.

They DID fail to evacuate people and left them to die. They DID fail to do airdrops of food and water, causing unnecessary deaths, including deaths of babies and children. They DID intentionally allow people to be killed. Those affected were primarily Blacks, not whites. There is no debating those facts.

13. 1927
The aftermath of all that had a lot to do with Huey Long getting elected, IIRC.

George Bush doesn't care about black people
or white people or poor people or the environment
or the Geneva Convention, or gay people...

:bounce:

:applause:

He stated on CNN that he believes that it is very possible that they broke the levees on purpose and that he does not put anything past this government. I AGREE!

8. Yes and he references the Tusqueegee (sp?) experiments...
as his reason for not trusting the U. S. government when it comes to African American issues. :woohoo::woohoo:

9. Give me a break
I can't believe he'd make a film about such a ridiculous tinfoil hat theory. There is no evidence the levees were broken on purpose.

10. You needed to have seen the interview...
He was not making a case that the levees were broken intentionally and that is not going to be the premise of his documentary. He just said he wouldn't put it past the U. S. government (particularly Bush's - although he did not name Bush directly). Then he referenced the Tusqeegee incident as proof enough that they were capable of such an atrocity.

12. Well, he certainly didn't give the plot away, LOL...
but he did say that it was going to be called something like "The Day the Levees Broke". I think he will indeed bring in all the elements of subjugation of the poor blacks in this country using the New Orleans disaster as a microcosm and microscope with which to study the problem.

He did say that he would not present the theory that the levees were broken intentionally by the U. S. government as part of the story, but I'll bet it will be damning enough without his needing to resort to any sort of tinfoilhattery... I really think Spike is a much more intelligent guy than to allow one of his works to be put in a light where it could be discredited by critics squealing "foul" because of conspiracy theories. I think it is definitely something worth looking forward to.
