OMG -- Why Condi is taking over "coordinating" Iraq
I was just listening to the House Committee hearings on the $87 billion when it emerged.

Condisleeza does NOT have to report to Congress. We went through something very similar with Homeland Security.

1. Outta sight, outta mind.
Condor's new role is for one reason: speed the pork to defense contractors.

2. I heard it too and had the same reaction-- AHA!
Bill Young (R-FL), chair of the House Appropriations Cmte, was actually the one who said this--probably it had been raised by Obey or another Dem earlier? But he argued that Bremer still had to report to Rummy and so it would be OK. I don't think this can be accepted without skepticism. That Condi, as part of the Exec. Branch, cannot be called to account by Congress makes the recent odd shakeup totally logical--and totally infuriating.

As far as I know (not having read every report), the press missed this too. Wonder if they'll report it now...

The folks he fronts for pull the strings.

Don't ya think junior is influenced by his pooper that heads the Carlyle boys? And James A. Baker with his juice with court leaders?

Henry Kissinger stands in the background always for these thugs.

6. A woman's touch
I'm sorry, but Condi is not a woman. Not sure what it is, but I don't claim it as one of my own kind. It's some sort of experimental neocon mutation.

9. Because Rummy Blew Re-Building Iraq
Rummy ignored top people when they advised him about Iraq, esp. nation building after the war. Rummy wanted to install Chalbri(sp?) which backfired, and now rebuilding Iraq will cost the U.S. poly-billions of dollars all at a time when jobs are disappearing.

11. look out world, iraq is changing its name to condiricistan
why is this woman given such high marks vis-a-vis foreign policy acumen?

she has been reckless and wrong so often that in any other job she would have been fired by now.

too busy to read cia reports on iraqi wmd, to stupid to imagine terrorists would use kamikazi attacks, too much of a liar.

13. Please
quit referring to Condi as a "she". I propose we use "it" in all posts from here on out. I wish I was eloquent enough to convey my deep hatred for "it". (Speaking as a woman).

14. It might have less to do with Rice being a Woman
than being an African-American...
Remember the Iranians released African-American hostages at the Embassy because the Iranian students felt they were 'victims' of America too

They should let this African run Iraq

15. I think we are getting played on this issue.
Getting Rumsfield extricated from Iraq reconstruction allows him to focus on the next acquisition....Syria.

Just like they played the media that there was friction between Powell and Rumsfeld then BOOM, the two would suddenly be on the same page.

17. Rice's grasp of history
According to James McPherson, president of the American Historical Association: "The judgmental tone of Rice's derogatory reference to 'revisionist historians' brings to mind a review of her book The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army, 1948-1983 in the December 1985 issue of the American Historical Review when she was an assistant professor at Stanford. The reviewer claimed that Rice 'frequently does not sift facts from propaganda and valid information from disinformation or misinformation.' In addition, according to the reviewer, she 'passes judgments and expresses opinions without adequate knowledge of the facts' and her 'writing abounds with meaningless phrases.'"

That was one smart and prescient reviewer.

21. And how does this relate to the CA car tax....
Most of car tax went to local governments to pay for fire and police. Fire and police, the first responders in our Homeland Security? So why couldn't we just give California the money from the Homeland Security fund controlled by the WH and Tom Ridge?

22. Well, if she's replacing Rumsfeld
I think we are still in deep doodoo. Rumsfeld needs to go, but Bush needs someone with a clue to replace him. That isn't Rice. Rice is a so-called expert on the Soviet Union, a very different animal than the muslim countries of the Middle East. I think it shows the basic cluelessness of Washington in general and the Republican administration in particular.

Americans are very provincial and in spite of being the biggest and meanest bully on the block, they don't understand that maybe they don't need to be bullies, but learned sages and diplomats for lasting results. It seems with all the universities in this large land we could have produced a few who have a clue.
