Bush and the GOP's numbers are dropping like stones. Does this mean we get to reap the benefit of their demise?

Keep in mind one of the goals of the NeoCons is the demise of a strong central government. If Bushco topples and no strong leaders step in to take his place they still win.

Sometimes the chour needs preaching to. Sometimes we need to recall the good things we are fighting for. We can't just be not Bush. We need to make ourselves known for something positive.

Speak up. Here and in public. Shout out the good things your political philosophy represents. Its really the only way others will see the light you have and come away from those that have nothing but negative things to say about the government.

6. Working class relief: Single payer healthcare
Medical costs are breaking the backs of working Americans. Single payer healthcare is THE bottled water/MREs Americans need before they can get off "stun" and put their lives back together.

7. Government of, for by the people, not of, for by the corporations
Specifically:

1. An honest electoral system that does not tolerate the exclusion of any class or group from the electoral machinery, and where votes are rigorously verifiable.

2. Ammend the Constitution to specify that corporations are not people, are not necessarily entitled to the protections of the Constitution and are specifically banned from participation in the political process.

Practical measure to help accomplish this: Major media required to give 5 minutes FREE advertising per day to each major candidate during a period of (say) 1 month leading up to national elections.

3. 'A free press being vital to a functioning democracy', reinstate fairness doctrine, dismantle media monopolies, make it illegal to play 'news for pay' without disclosure, and make it clear that no government official is allowed to prevent any member of the press from covering anything they wish to cover.

4. All persons have equal rights before the law, equal access to the electoral machinery and equal access to government services.

5. A return to a strongly progressive tax system, where the portion of a person's income required for survival is not taxable, where the very wealthy (say over a million in income) pay a very high rate (say up to 50 or 60 %) and where corporations pay a progressive tax based on net worth (i.e. 'tax size').

6. Vigorous prosecution of those individuals and corporations who bribe public officials to get preferential legislation, and of the public officials who accept such bribes (regardless of political persuasion or amount of influence).

7. Renunciation of the idea of American Empire. War powers to be held strictly by the Congress (not the Executive). Military to be used for defense of the nation, and specifically not for the influence of markets and economics to the benefit of a few large corporations. US to take its place among the nations of the world and focus on cooperation, not domination. (And, thereby, saving something like half a trillion dollars a year as well as vastly decreasing the cost of doing business around the world).

. . .

8. Good
We stand for good. Helping those less fortunate and keeping government out of people's lives needlessly. We stand for making America a better nation by rebuilding our infrastructure, providing for the health and welfare of our citizens and an open and transparent government which stands for peace and harmony. A sound economy where even the wealthy pay their way and we pay for what we spend. Basic fairness for all and not just the elite.

9. Fiscal accountability and responsibility. Paying as you go.
Not charging it to the future. Opportunities for those who need a hand up. A voice for the people (I am for the unions, but sometimes I think they need cleaning up as well.)

Honesty. Compassion.

As my pastor said about our liberal church, we may not always come up with the right answers, but at least we're still struggling with the questions. The other side is absolute. No room to budge, even if they've obviously gone over the edge.

11. Good topic. What do we stand for?
We stand for

JOBS for Americans
Good jobs, paying jobs, jobs with some security, jobs with a future, and the opportunity to rise.

SECURITY for Americans
Security by focusing on protecting America at home instead of starting unneeded wars.

ENERGY for Americans
Energy from renewables, so we are not beholden to oil countries.

HEALTH CARE for Americans
For every American.

PROTECTION OF PERSONAL LIBERTIES
We must never allow our desire for security to rob us of our freedom.

EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW FOR ALL
For everyone, for every race, every gender preference, every religion or lack thereof.
