My friend Spike watched Bush on TV this morning. at some Habitat Project Bush was video taped hammering a nail into some wood.

"First off, a woman presets the 8 penny nail(about 3.2 inches long)

Then Prez Bush comes along and takes 13 whacks at it...13 whacks is kinda Girlie Mon as it normally takes 2 or 3 whacks and if outta shape...3-5 whacks.

Sorry, 13 hits is Girlie Mon level.

If this woman really pre-set an 8d nail, which is 2.5 inches long, and Bush really hit it thirteen times before he drove it in, there's really something wrong with the guy.

A 12d common nail is 3.25 inches long, as is a 16d coated sinker.

Actually, I can kinda see a way he'd need thirteen whacks to pound a nail in: if the item he was nailing on was springy. Then you gotta whack it gentle so the nail doesn't shoot out away from the work and kill someone, until you get the nail completely through the springy wood into the stud behind. Then it's solid and you can whack it in using just a couple of hits.

On edit: I just saw the picture upthread. He's nailing OSB into place, and that shit's really springy.

Now let me get this straight: This is the man who claims to be the president of the United States of America. He's got a buttload of Hitler's money in the bank. He gets $400,000 a year for clearing brush and starting wars. And he can't (1) afford a pair of safety glasses, so when the nail jumps out of the OSB and hits him between his beady little eyes it won't blind him or make Dick Cheney run the country from the Oval Office instead of his undisclosed location, or (2) afford to go to Home Depot and spend $400 on a Paslode Impulse self-propelled framing nailer so he'll at least LOOK like he knows what the hell he's doing? Let me ask you something, Straight Shooter: would you want to be on the same jobsite as Bush if he was holding that hammer in the proper manner? Ah hell no, the fucker would be flinging nails all over the damn place.

Bush works out a LOT, as his BMI can attest, so he's a strong man and if a nail he hit dislodged itself from the work and hit someone, they'd be severely injured if not killed.

The work crew knows this. The Secret Service knows this. Even Bush knows this, although his total lack of safety goggles shows he really doesn't care. (Look on the side of a box of nails. "Wear Goggles" is on all of them.) So the Secret Service, ever mindful that letting their protectee kill innocent bystanders is no way to run a railroad, probably made him choke up on the hammer.

I still think they should have got him a nailer. As long as the nose safety (the device which keeps the nailer from firing unless it's pressed against the work--all new nailers have one) is working, he couldn't shoot anyone with it.

38. Thanks for the info re length of nails. I was just guessing. The 8 penny

nail used for the board in the video is pretty much standard. But the frame are 2x4's and the OSB board shouldn't be too springy if fit right.
