Time to leave the country. New money will destroy our
country.

New $20 bill to be a start of a 2-tier currency - one for us and one for the rest of the world. This will keep our money in the US and subject to government grabbing.

3. Utter rubbish
Americans always say they are gung-ho, go-ahead progressive type people...but a minor color change on a bill and everybody panics!

Color has nothing to do with value folks...it helps prevent counterfeiting.

Everyone else in the world has varicolored money for that reason.

You guys can't tell 5's from 20's

5. I heard tell, just the other day...

that the "Fed" to balance the trade deficit will require every citizen to sing randomly selected commercial jingles whilst burning all of their old "greenback" currency to restart the ecomedy.

I'm suprised that this moron of a gold-trader hasn't said that buying gold will keep the lizard aliens from burrowing into your basement to eat your poodles.

8. I don't think
that was meant as a slam against the average American's perceptive abilities, but rather as a comment on currency design. Maple has a point--US dollars pretty much look the same from a design point of view.

I'm just bummed that we didn't go as far as the Netherlands. I think they held a national design competition. Dutch Guilders=best looking money in the world.

4. What's this all about?
All I've heard about the new currency is that it's pink, so it will be harder to forge (jeez, PINK? Doesn't it remind you of 'Legally Blonde'. Can't you just see Reese Witherspoon flipping out a pink stash of cash to pay for something).

I have read that all paper currency in the US is now microchipped, so that customs officials at the airports can tell how much money is being taken out of or brought into the US.

You're only allowed to take a certain amount of money out of the country, I think it's $1,000 or is it $10,000. Either way, that's with our current greenbacks.

7. This guy's taking Gresham's Law much too seriously.

Went through the same silliness when they changed the C-note.

There is always some talk about how much of the US currency outside our borders is illicit. Drug money comes to mind, as does Saddam's stash of cash. And Idi Amin's. And Castro's. And etc. Of course, a lot of cash inside our borders is illicit, too.

The idea posited in some quarters is to make the old money obsolete at some point, so that everyone has to cash it in for new ones and then explain where they got it. If they don't do that, and the old money still has its face value, it makes no difference that they change the bill.

Taking all this to where we won't be able to convert cash to foreign currency seems a bit bizarre.

But, with all the shit going down economically, who knows what they're hatching for when it really hits the fan...
