Suggestion for recommending threads. |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 06:08 PM by mzmolly
Sometimes I recommend a thread but don't wish to comment. I suggest kicking the thread with a (!) and leaving it at that?
Just a thought. It's a quick way to recognize without posting a lengthy prose.
If you like the idea give it a whirl in this thread.
!

Someone makes a good post and another person follows up with !
Oh, dear, I'm making your life difficult, aren't I? :)
How about +? Will that work?

25. Well, I think the (!) is appropriate b/c it's a supportive punctuatal |
|
symbol. BTW, I made up the word "punctuatal." ;)

Punctuatal. Hmmm. Sounds almost Italian. Punctuatali. There, that's better. :D

Sheesh! :grr: ;)
My suggestion is a quick way to recognize a post that you've recommended without posting a reply.
I plan to do so.

15. Do yourself a favor and run a Simple Search for 'kick' ... |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 06:31 PM by TahitiNut
... in just General Discussion and in just the last 24 hours. (That won't show all the variants that've arisen on 'kicking' either, which you propose increasing.)
DU is kicking itself the death! Every 'kick' is an assault against every other 'kick' and against every new thread. It's a behavior that fails the Kant test for ethics - it's unethical. The Categorical Imperative ... read it ... embrace it ... love it.
IMHO, people with the pretense of having a social conscience (i.e. liberals and progressives) ought to school themselves on social behaviors that are self-destructive.

23. WTF? It's unethical and self destructive to kick a thread? |
|
:eyes:
Anyway ...
Thanks for kicking my thread though. ;)
I'm aware that people "kick" threads, my suggestion was for a symbol that would indicate one recommended a thread.

21. I never quite understood the "kick" thing. |
|
Is something automatically "kicked' by simply responding in any ol' way?
Must one do any special procedure for an official enkickment?.

38. Agreed. My OP was confusing. I'm speaking about a quick recommendation |
|
and using (!) as an indicator that a thread has been recommended. The reason I mentioned "kicking" is b/c it will happen if you recommend it with any symbol/notation.
What I've seen in the past is a good thread get lots of recommendations, but can still sink to the bottom of GD.
I felt that this way if one doesn't choose to comment - they can still recommend a thread and give a short recognition at the same time.
