Plamegate about to blow Bushco out of the water? Well, maybe.

I certainly hope so.

But how many times have we seen the DU crowd go off the deep end in anticipatory ecstasy, only to discover that someone had drained the pool while we were in mid-leap?

The first one I recall was in the late sumer & fall of 2001 it was the FL recount. Everyone was wildly euphoric on the news that the press consortium was about to break the news that a recount proved that Gore had won Florida. The Bushco dirty trcks would be exposed, and we'd have our country back.

Well, a couple of distractions came along--like, these airplanes hit some buildings in NY right when the recount story was due to come out.

There have been many more such poignant moments over time. I won't bother to list them all--any oldtimer around here could do so as well as I. Collectively DU more resembles a communually shared bipolar disorder than it does a prophetic institution.

We have seen what lengths these folk will go to to preserve their power, and we have seen how they can pull in everyone from the Corporate Media to the Supreme Court to do their bidding. So, as we go into Plame/Abramoff/Delay/whateverGate, I'm pretty damned nervous.

2. Point well taken
5 years of door slams have taught me to be very cautious about these "bush is toast" stories.

Unfortunately, we have some politically immature people here who just don't really understand the real world. Their idealism is kind of cute, but you would think they would have learned their lesson by now.

6. A Couple Differences, Though...
GW's polls are in the tank and the media is shifting away from the administration. (I hope!)

3. Hey MSM's ABC Nightly News
gave the impression the situation is serious. Given that, I feel better that something positive may happen.

now changed. The Corporate Media are also looking for blood; they are complicit, but they might be trying to atone. Regardless, someone or ones are going down, and it's a beautiful thing.

8. Hopefully the press will see GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK
and get starry-eyed that they'll be played by Matthew McConaghey.

5. People here and other places have been pushing real hard to get
Democracy back into our Republic. I do agree that we do start to jump up and down a little to quickly around here. One the other hand, we do need to get back to pushing progressive ideas rather than balancing on the back of our heals.

7. Most people have gotten wise to the NeoCon game...
...and the NeoCons are under attack at various levels and directions...they can't fend them all off. Sooner or later their house of cards will collapse.

9. The NYTimes/Miller issue may end up being in our favor
I think that the shameful behavior - admitted by the NYTimes in Sunday's paper - should be a wake up call for other newspapers.

Shame, shame. Miller was embedded not with the military but with the presiding administration.

All other newspapers should distance themselves from that. I hope that will work to the favor of having newspapers independently reporting about government, not in bed with it.

The NYTimes, which I subscribe to daily here in Seattle (am thinking about changing that), needs to re-think its priorities. It should be for the readers, not the reporters or the government.

The press is there for the people, not the government. Did they forget that?

10. I have this recurring nightmare that the outing of Cheney's
little in-house spy was timed with precision--early enough not to make the people suspicious that we're being handed a decoy, but not so early that we forget about the story. Then somehow, at the height of the drama, all roads will magically lead to him.

And stop there.
