Anyone else here file for Bankruptcy last week?
After much deliberation, I filed Chapter 7 last Wednesday.

I feel better already.

Anybody else here?

1. I called a lawyer, and...
...was told to have $2000 in CASH if I came in on Tuesday, $2500 CASH if I came in on Wednesday. WTF? The lawyers get a win-win outta this deal!!!

2. If you're near bankruptcy
how are you supposed to have that kind of cash laying around? Sell your car if it isn't financed?

7. I filed 3 years ago
I paid $1,000 and that was for a top flight attorney.

Normally you can get a ch.7 filed for about $500/$600

I guess the attorneys figure they need to cash in now, since their business will be drying up once these bk's get through the system.

btw, You'll NEVER find a bk attorney who agrees to represent you without cash upfront (and if they do, they are a lousy attorney lol). The reason they need cash upfront is because if they agree to bill you, then they become a creditor along with everyone else, and won't get paid.

the trustee wants all my records from over the past year.

They want you destitute. I hate Nelson and other senators who signed the new bankruptcy law into effect.

He is not getting my vote based on that.

PS. My atty said 200,000 people filed this week in the US.

4. I filed almost four years ago, after a divorce...
My lawyer required 1500 up front. He let me make a few payments and then filed the paperwork. He did a great job.

If it wasn't for chap7, I wouldn't be participating in the economy right now, and very likely wouldn't have been able to get the job that I currently hold. Bankruptcy is good for the country, despite the bullshit propaganda produced by the credit interests in this country.

I feel bad for people that were under the gun trying to beat the deadline. I feel worse for people that will (and they will) end up like I was four years ago. They are fucked - indentured servants of credit card capitalism.

5. Chapter 13 on Friday. Been working on it for two months. Sort of
complicated--two businesses, one closing and one remaining as well as household.

I'm beginning to wrap my mind around it.
