Limbaugh says better if Democrats shoot down Miers...
...rather than the Repubs. However, can Democrats expect something better from this Administration than Miers? I think they need to take a serious look at their vote on Miers before they throw her overboard, no matter how incompetent. The next nominee will probably be much worse. It's the Supreme Court, stupid.

1. Thats what he WANTS! No way we should do their dirty work for them...
Make them sweat it out and cannibalize each other while we laugh. Then we can go off on the next one-who will surely be far worse.

2. If she is shot down, it will be due to the GOP
afterall they control congress and it takes a majority to defeat her.

3. Anybody Bush Noms Will Be A Horror
However, the best we could hope for his he suffers a humiliating defeat & crumbling support from his base, and has to appoint another horror.

It's not like we're going to get a good or fair judge out of BushCo.

5. A possible strategy
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 12:11 PM by ewagner
If indictments come down next week, and Dubya becomes the lamest of lame ducks, without Rove, Cheney and Libby, then the tactic becomes a stall tactic. In other words fillabuster the hell out of every nomination until Dubya is out of office or, (unlikely) he appoints a moderate to the Court.

If the indictments come it will be the first sign of hope of keeping loonies off of the bench. If Dems are united, he can't win.

btw: If the indictments come down, the Repubs won't have enough political firepower to pull off the "Nuclear Option" in the Senate. Frist is just about as much of a lame duck as Dubya. He has no support. It's time to call their bluff.

Hey Democratic Leadership! Remember this:

NO GUTS = NO BLUE CHIPS!

7. He's projecting that she's a lame duck.
I'm always happy when a metaphor shows up for validation.

9. How can the next nominee be "much worse?" I don't get it.
Miers is the worst of all possible combinations; a sycophant, an anti-choice fundie, inexperienced, unprincipled, and probably the worst thing to add to the mix, a total whore for the corporatocracy.

How could it be worse? I wish some bold democrat (are there any?) would stand up and state loudly and clearly the no Bush nominee should be approved for ANY post until the Rove/Plame/Cheney mess is cleared up. If Bush is proven to have had criminal involvement, which is very possible, we'll be stuck with whomever he appoints to the highest court FOR LIFE. That person's objectivity and willingness to place constitution above party will always be an issue, an his/her legitimacy will always be in question due to his/her connection to the crony-loving criminal POTUS.

The republicans held up virtually EVERY Clinton nominee for the specific purpose of stacking the courts. That is documented fact. The democrats, the party of the majority, owe it to the American people to start rebuilding confidence in the courts by stopping any Bush nominee in it's tracks until he is either cleared or convicted. The man is likely a criminal...why are we so willing to accept his personal consigliere simply because we think his other thug crime family friends will be worse?

What exactly is your idea of WORSE, for pete's sake?

13. A simple test :
If the right wing wholeheartedly supports the nominee, they are bad. If they are split in their support, they don't know how bad she is... Why aren't they supporting her wholeheartedly?

14. They know how WE think, too.
Reverse psychology? If they jump up and down screaming about how bad she it, they assume we'll assume she must be okay. So, the louder they scream, the more we think, "hell, I guess she can't be all that bad."

She's all that bad. And much worse. And she knows where Bush's bodies are buried.

15. I don't think the Democrats have the guts for a filibuster fight...
So her replacement will be the next Justice. I think there can be worse than Miers - perhaps not more unqualified - but worse in their rightwing views. So, we should be very careful what we wish for. Somehow, I don't think she is another Clarence Thomas, but that is the decision they will need to make.

16. The democrats don't have the guts to ask for the men's room key.
Sorry. We should have these republican mother fuckers by the balls right now, and I see nothing.

Nothing. A filibuster is a dream, to be sure, with this lot.

They'll continue to give BushCo anything it wants, no matter what.

10. Nothing wrong with a Supreme Court with 8 judges
Ya know, this is like all those abused women who keep staying with the asshole who beat them "because the next one may be just as bad or worse". They never think about the option of staying single.

Bush's strategy is to bring up a real Neanderthal if Miers goes down. Let the GOP vote her down, but throw them enough votes to push her off the cliff.

Then, FILIBUSTER every freakin' jackass that comes up from now until 2008.
