A Thought on the Rush/Drugs Topic
I expect to see a lot of ink on Rush's addiction to "prescription" painkillers. I expect a lot of it to be compassionate. I expect to see tortured logic explaining how his addiction is understandable because it's a byproduct of honest prescriptions to treat actual pain. Not like the addictions caused by "maggot infested hippies" just looking to get high. We all know the drugs THEY abuse funnel money to murderous trafficers and terrorists.

But I wonder...

Will some enterprising reporter point out that:

1. Limbaugh acquired black market pills
2. Some percentage of those black market pills were likely acquired not by prescription fraud but by good old fashioned armed robbery of pharmacies. Pharmacies in my county get knocked over at gunpoint all the time, and the robbers are always looking for opiate painkillers...

Will the dots be connected? I'm willing to bet $100 right now that some pharmacist somewhere had a gun pointed at them and was forced to hand over some of the pills that eventually made their way to Limbaugh.

If my theory is plausible it would wreck the hell out of the the white-collar, "he's only hurting himself" attempt to excuse Limbaugh.

Just a thought. If anyone out there wants to do the legwork and get published with this idea, please, have at it. No need to credit me for the story idea :)

8. Yep, that was a good movie
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 05:24 PM by lunabush
Dillon is good actor. Dillon stole his own drugs.

Rush used his millions to buy black market drugs and then villified and raised hatred against street addicts and thieves whom he supported. He is lowly lowly scum and he needs to go to prison for a very long time. He deserves no sympathy and I hope that is considered when he gets his day in court.

edit to say nice post geebensis

3. White Collar Crime...
These pills can make it to the black market right from the manufacturers. White Collar crime is real...all in the name of the $$$ - Viagra is a huge black market product - I bet they sell more illegal viagra than legal!!!

And there are some pretty smart cookies out there who can make this stuff in their basement - pill presses are commercially avaiable...

4. And what about Rush's record on drug abusers? Do we have
links with sources about how he has recommended treating others of his kind in the past? A collection of shuch links would be VALUABLE!!

6. Rush said: "The Answer is to lock-up white drug users too"
Last week Star Jones on the ABC show The View read an actual transcript if one of his broadcasts. It said something to the effect that if there is an inequality in that more Blacks the Whites are in prison due to drugs the answer is not to let the Blacks out--BUT to put White dealers, and "White users," in to prison doing long hard jail time.

That is pretty close. I am sure one could write Star Jones to get the actual words. She is known to respond to email.

7. It's hard to gin up any compassion for Limbaugh
...and not just because he's on record as a lock 'em up and throw away the key type on drugs.

For 15 years his shtick has been to ridicule and humiliate anyone who dares disagree with the republican party platform. Anyone who DARES express a contrary opinion.

If you've listened to him you know that:

1. Tom Daschle is short.
2. Robert Reich is short.
3. Chelsea Clinton is unattractive (to Limbaugh that is. I've seen the bikini pictures and I know better)
4. Hillary is unattractive
5. Janet Reno is unattractive

...This is what constitutes his "relentless pursuit of the truth." I'm just hoping that Limbaugh's first clear and sober thought in rehab is going to be "Holy shit, I'm going to be crucified. And I deserve it."

10. I'm sure he will be "handled"

As an open minded conservative (I know, I know,.....my conservative friends don't think I can vote Rebublican on some issues, but have liberal beliefs in some areas, either!), I can tell you that conservatives tend to eat thier own, and from what I've seen at some of the gun forums I frequent, he isn't getting too much slack. He will get what he has coming to him from many of us. As with many of you, his speedy recovery from a debilitating addiction is a prayer, to be sure, but so is just punishment. A lot of us tend to be pretty big believers in hard discipline for ourselves as well as others. If he's able to rally back, it'll have to be due to some damned hard work.

Take my word for it....this won't be a "gimme."

11. You might be right
...but I've been slogging through Freeperland.

For every "let's be consistent in our principles" post there are 25 "let's pray for him on this but I know he wasn't getting stoned -- he was fighting incredible pain" threads.

People are capable of mind-boggling denial.

13. Thanks a million....
I appreciate the welcome. (Most) of you guys aren't as evil as portrayed on the gunboards. (Suprise!)

I hope you believe me when I tell you that most of us aren't as evil as occasionally portrayed here. I really apreciate open conversation, and I can assure you, I'm only trying to understand both sides of many issues, and if anyone would like an honest opinion from me, feel free to ask. I'm not into name calling or generalizations, and flaming folks ain't my style! I AM a conservative, but there seems to be nice people wherever you go.

Thanks again,
jame

14. You might be amazed
You might be amazed at how many pro-gun (or at least 2nd amendment neutral), fiscally conservative, socially liberal types call themselves Democrats.

The genius of Rush Limbaugh is that he has managed for 15 years to paint all Democrats and liberals as tax and spend, PETA environmentalists. Reality is much more complex, but complexity doesn't work well in 7 minute monologues sandwiched between ads for pattern baldness cures on AM radio.

16. You would be amazed at how many hunters/gun owners
live at DU. I am only one of the many hunters here and was a member of the NRA for almost 25 years. I only left when it seemed to me that the tone was changing (the era of Wayne LaPierre, whom I have met and was not impressed). I collect some oddball stuff, even now, but see no reason for the general populace to have AKs, SKSs, or the like. After all, what good is a 25 yard weapon, for any other reason than hunting bipedal game?:-)

17. sorry...only a brief one to Mikimouse
Apologies for the brief hijack.......

Miki-I have an SKS, and actually it's a 250 yard rifle. That gives me great comfort here in the midwest, as I have 4 legged coyotes killing my barn cats and the upland game, including the pheasants.

I also have 2 legged coyotes in the form of "Tweakers", or meth lab cookers that are in off-again; on-again business in the timbers and woods less than 1/2 mile behind my house. The authorities know about 'em, but can't (and sometimes won't) catch 'em. Hell, as they've told me, "Take care of yourself jame. Response to your place is 30 to 45 minutes"

The SKS gives me a greater level of comfort.

Again, apologies for the hijack.....won't happen often, I promise.

18. i hope he's going down
The only thing that worries me is, i hope the cops that are investigating Rush aren't anything like the cops in my town. They're the type that eat up everything he says with relish, and then like to stick it to all the youngsters blacks and hispanics in town. if you aren't old and white, you're going to jail. and Rush is old and white (not to mention fat, stupid and hypocritical. I'm not holding my breath on jail time. he's not a black rapper or sports star.
