Free Living Will until Sunday.....
Every little bit helps and after the Shiavo fiasco this is something we should all consider.

Robert Shapiro's son died a few weeks ago from a drug overdose and had to be removed from life support. In honor of him, Robert Shapiro is offering free living wills through Sunday night on his website.

Go to http://www.legalzoom.com and fill out an online living will form. When it gets to the payment section, type "brent" into the promotion code box. I just did this and it worked. These are normally $39.00 on their website and more from a lawyer, so this is a good deal. It's a really good thing to have, so now is a good time to get one!
Robert Shapiro announced it on Larry King tonight and I was watching it while I was sitting in front of my computer, so I literally typed the address in and did it within minutes after he announced it, before the rush hit. There are probably a lot of people trying to do it now. Hopefully it will slow back down tomorrow and everyone will be able to get in!
When you get to Referral Code (Parner Groups) Type in brent and hit <update>, then hit Continue at the bottom of the page

Where it asks for your cc info, it had this message on mine:

"Since your order is free, there is no need to enter your credit card information -- just press "SUBMIT" to continue."

1. Is this valid anywhere?
I mean, can I use it here in Canada?

2. Since a living will is just a statement of preferred treatment
...I would think it would more or less hold up anywhere. It makes the intent of the patient known in a clear, unmistakable manner.

11. Different states have different requirements
Most are close to each other, but only by reviewing the statute can you be sure. However, I expect each state has its own "statutory form," and if you use that you are pretty much guaranteed it will be valid. I also expect the relevant government entity in Canada has promulgated a standard form as well.

15. Geoff, I wonder if Robert Shapiro will be doing an appropriate one ....
for the state you are from. He has to know that people need a certain form for their state and he is a prominent attorney. I would hope he would give the right form to the people from each state.

3. Thanks for the heads-up
fyi for anyone trying now - they are taking your name and email and saying they will be getting back to you within the next week. They've had hundreds of thousands of responses and they are swamped.

We all need to do this to avoid any further fiascoes. If you have not done this, please do.

:toast:

I just filled in my name and email address and got this message: "Thank You. You will be sent an email in the next week with detailed instructions on how to receive your free living will.

There was also a message (on the same page to fill in name and email) about Brent and that it would be free. I think they're so overwhelmed that they've just shortened the procedure. Wow. Amazing.

10. It may not be valid in all states
For example, in JOklahoma, the state legislature has enacted law that requires a specific form and verbage. The document has several sections and allows the person executing it to choose what kinds of treatments to refuse (withholding nutrition, hydration, etc.). It also has a section to enable the individual to appoint a health care power of attorney.
