I actually hope Brandi Swindell wins the election
The election of Brandi Swindell will FUCK the Religious Right for all time to come.

Check this shit out: Ms. Swindell is running for the Boise City Council because her opponent Maryanne Jordan voted to remove the Ten Commandments monument from Boise's Julia Davis Park. Ms. Swindell's mission is to put it back.

The reason Maryanne Jordan voted to remove the Ten Commandments monument was because Fred Phelps came to Boise with his "Matthew Shepard is in Hell" monument, informed the Boise City Council that the presence of the Ten Commandments in Julia Davis Park mandated that Westboro Baptist Church be allowed to erect its monument, and that he expected the city to provide a forklift and crew to emplace the Shepard memorial. The Boise City Council convened an emergency meeting and unanimously voted to remove the Ten Commandments monument. IIRC it was donated to a church.

(An aside: I believe Fred Phelps hates Ten Commandments monuments. He's responsible for more of them coming down than the ACLU.)

Let's play devil's advocate. Brandi Swindell gets elected to the City Council. Her first act will be to introduce a resolution demanding the Ten Commandments monument be reinstalled in Julia Davis Park. It will go back up. In about a week, Phelps and his gang will be back in Boise. They'll have the Shepard monument on a truck, a forklift on another truck, and they'll be placing the offensive monument (you can see it at Phelps' site) right at the entrance to the park.

Two days after Phelps drops the monument in Julia Davis Park, Boise will be the butt of every late-night talk show host no matter how far to the right they are.

Two years later, a more-rational Republican is going to run a campaign ad featuring a double-truck photo of the Phelps monument in the Boise newspaper with the headline "Brandi Did This To You." Brandi will get about four votes.

1. Boise's mayor had given the Commandments a much better spot
with a large viewership. Anyone voting for Swindell is hoping for a Janet Jackson moment in which Brandi exposes herself. She's a right wing mindless Tammy Faye doll.

2. Brandi's real name is Melissa
She chose to adopt "Brandi". A real nut case.
