Perjury and obstruction of justice....
Most of the accounts I've read state that "lawyers close to the case say Fitzgerald will probably just bring charges of perjury and obstruction of justice."

This tells me one thing. That there have been target letters sent and those two charges ARE in them without a doubt. My question is, how many other charges do they not mention?

1. I think that he would not lay all his cards out, a couple maybe but
the rest he's saving for his own time and in his own way.

3. Which is a good thing. We know Fitz didn't let the
cat out of the bag.

It boggles my mind that the lawyers close to the case which would be the perps lawyers would give away that information.

5. True. Why would they do that? What's the benefit of this? nm

4. Do the letters warn about specific charges?
If not, it seems to me that this is just wishful thinking on the part of the defendants' lawyers. They know that their clients had to go back and correct their testimony because the prosecutor caught them in lies. And, for example, Miller described how the prosecutor asked her about the effect of Libby's letter on her. That the prosecutor caught some of the defendants attempting to obstruct justice is, therefore, also obvious. As for any other charges, the defendants' attorneys certainly aren't going to ask for trouble by admitting that there might be any basis at all to bring any other ones. It's all posturing. Nobody knows what the prosecutor knows or what he plans to do.

6. Doesn't make sense does it? They are in effect
telling everyone their clients have committed perjury and obstruction of justice.
I don't know if the charges are in the target letters or not, but for lawyers to admit such things about their clients is pretty stupid as far as I can see.

8. Could it be that there are other charges coming down the pike &
if these are the least of them...would the attnys use it as a way to divert from the others? I have no idea, just a thought.

9. It would be to their advantage to just shut up

and not say anything. That's what they are supposed to do. Boggles the mind doesn't it?

It also begs the question..if they are so innocent, why did they have to lie and obstruct.

7. It's my understanding target letters are a "courtesy," not a requirement.
Especially at this late stage of the game.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to spread misinformation.

They're used to ratchet up the pressure on potential recipients of plea deals, i.e. potential songbirds.

11. Thanks.
I presume not sending a target letter is also a tactic, particularly when you are dealing with Mr. Hubris himself, Karl Rove.

13. Target letters a requirement before testimony, if charges may be pending
Target letters are a requirement before testimony, if charges may be pending. But after testimony if charges are decided on, a letter is not required. However, it is widely believed that "Scooter" and Hadley have received letters that they "may" be charged, after they testified.

12. Sounds like Luskin's spinning
like he's been doing since Lawrence O'Donnell broke the news of Rove's involvement. This is going to be the Rethug tactic for at least the next few weeks. They've been using George Will and Andrea Mitchell(to name but two) in the last week to spread dis-information. I work with a snot-nosed repuke who listens to Rush, Hannity and Savage. My co-worker thinks there won't be any indictments, but consider his sources. I sent the kid this from Media Matters:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200510210011#1

Maybe the kid will open his eyes. Maybe not. Me, I'm hoping to get a very nice Fitzmas present. Fingers crossed.

15. There seems to be a consensus in the media that both Rove and
Libby have been told by their lawyers that they may be in serious legal jeopardy. My speculation is Fitzgerald deliberately started his NEW website on Friday to put even more pressure on the key players that they have the weekend to either squeal on the others in order to reduce the pending charges or face indictments this week. This is sheer speculation on my part re the site and it's timing but given Fitzgerald has been calling the shots all along, it simply makes sense that the website is another brilliant 'chess' move.
