Hypocrite of the yr: On MTP, Sen KB Hutchison downplayed the severity
of possible "perjury or obstruction of justice" charges against Rove, Libby, et. al Apparently repeating new RNC talking points, Hutchison said that those were not "real crimes". Russert of course FAILED to jog her memory about her 2/12/99 votes to convict President Bill Clinton in his Senate impeachment trial. The charges?

PERJURY and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE! See votes numbers 17 and 18 at http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/vote_menu_106_1.htm .

1. I watched her say that...
and my jaw hit the floor. And you are right, tweety two gave her a pass on that incredible statement. Thank goodness, Frank Rich, later in the show, smacked her down, in case you did not see that.

2. Thank God for Frank Rich.
I'm missed the first half of the show but I was really pleased with Rich and the author of that book.

Both of them held Bushco's feet to the fire.

5. Tweety two-snort.
I've often watched KBH sit there and tell out and out lies in support of the failed admin and policies the mental midgets espouse. How on earth anyone could be proud of such outright filth is beyond me.
Perhaps I overvalue the truth, perhaps not, but deliberate lies, especially those with zero redeeming social value are the key ingredient of virtually all crimes, from serial murder on down. The most depressing element of this whole political BS is the crooked delusional thinking on all sides of the political divide. Those f**kers ore SICK!

6. I missed Frank Rich. Did he confront Hutchison directly, or had she
gone off camera by then? Had Russert acted responsibly as a nonpartisan journalist, Hutchison would have had to sputter some response to direct charges of hypocrisy. What's sufficient in her mind to justify the historic removal of a Democratic President merits just a slap on the wrist for a Republican WH aide? Come on. Russert showed himself today to be a bought-and-paid-for propaganda straight-man, not by any stretch of the imagination a journalist.

10. She was gone by that point...
too bad. But Frank pointed out the utter hypocrisy of what she said, and how it was different when Clinton was Prez.

17. The clips that live on to haunt corrupt pols are those where they nail
THEMSELVES! Whatever Frank Rich said after Hutchison was off the hook couldn't have the shelf life of: "I am not a crook" "We could get a million dollars, but it would be wrong, that's for sure" "Read my lips: No new taxes" "Mistakes? i'm sure I must have made some, but I can't think of any right now..."

3. KBH deserves the award for most useless
woman of the year. She must have bought her way into the Senate. Just like her president she speaks in cliches.

15. What a nice treat if their impeachment vote comes around to bite them
in the ass.

16. Certainly the 50 Republicans listed in post #14 will be loath to repeat
the same talking points Hutchison tried to defend today. Besides, some of them are up for re-election next year, and won't want to tie themselves too closely to a sinking ship of state at the WH.

WH indictments would be particularly nettlesome for now-Majority Leader Frist, whose leadership position would make it extremely hard to dodge questions about WH indictments. Like Hutchison, he voted to remove Clinton, both for perjury and for obstruction of justice.

mode of operation.

9. At least Russert said "well you thought perjury was a big deal for BC!"
I realize it didn'tt really go anywhere, but I was glad he said it at all!
