Can anyone explain what the deal is with "Piglet"?
I have about ten kids who plan on being Piglet for Halloween and there are Piglet stickers all over the place, their books, the bathroom, etc. I know who Piglet is, but this seems to be a political thing.

5. Interesting
My granddaughter was Piglet last year for Halloween--no political statement, just cute costume.
I sold her costume on Ebay this year...but it went to Ohio.

Your inquiry prompted me to google a little bit to see if there might be something political about it. I figured perhaps Disney was promoting some new Piglet movie or something and was blanketing the landscape with promotional material as they are wont to do.

Couldn't find anything like that but I did find this:

Seems as though a number of right-wing Christian bloggers are up in arms about a ban on pig-related items (including Piglet) in a British council office.

-snip

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council (Tory-controlled) has now announced that, following a complaint by a Muslim employee, all work pictures and knick-knacks of novelty pigs and "pig-related items" will be banned. Among the verboten items is one employee's box of tissues, because it features a representation of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. And, as we know, Muslims regard pigs as "unclean", even an anthropomorphised cartoon pig wearing a scarf and a bright, colourful singlet.

-snip

story here:

The bloggers (even Michelle Malkin is in on it) have started a "Free Piglet" campaign apparently created to ridicule the ban. One even going so far to post an image of Piglet in Crusades garb with the statment "If you find this image offensive, my work is done."

Now, I am not so sure that is the reason you're seeing so many Piglet costumes, stickers, etc., but since you wondered if it might be a political thing, there's one possible answer.

11. Thanks so much for researching this
I just don't know whether it is just the popularity of Pooh or the RW thing. I kind of think the former. But then again, you never know. If it has hit the churches, it might have filtered down.

This sounds like a huge to-do about nothing. I mean of course, it is silly to eliminate Piglet from tissues or whatever, but chances are very good it has been hugely overblown.

bet he wore the same scarf.

Actually, I saw him once. (not the pig) He spoke at my sister's graduation from Temple in Phila. in the 70's.

I'm sorry to tell you that he was excrutiatingly boring.
