Yep, thats the county next to me, and they are usually republican voters. Bankruptcy is on the rise, people have resorted to using credit cards for food, and the lines at the ONE food shelter are long. Add to that houses up for sale everywhere as the property taxes rise to offset everything AND crime on the rise. No wonder Oxycontin is so popular and easy to get here.

4. Mostly repugs here
depends on the county..No, the Governor is pretty popular. She just vetoed a Mi right to life bill that they threw at her desk, and she was voted in...yes, they could blame it on her, but MI did go for Gore and it is loaded with disgruntled Union workers. Lot of people rip roaring mad at Bush and saying it out loud.

6. Allegan is where I grew up
My family are all still there, and it is bad; had a brother in law laid off and out of work for a year. At least MI has a good demo governor though, unlike my current home of CA :-(

7. Mike Malloy talked about a county in Wisconsin where...
they fired all the janitorial staff due to budget short falls. The judges are now cleaning the bathrooms.

10. That would be Milwaukee County...
major budget deficit. A judge was also recently interviewed on NPR and asked about her new janitorial duties.

In addition, to save money, the county fired a lot of public park employees over the summer and closed some public swimming pools early which really angered many residents. As a result, several higher-ups in the parks department were canned.
