Non-Fitz thread: Bush backs down on Davis-Bacon act
Mary Landrieu and others forced him to back down...Contractors in NO must pay prevailing wage. Is it possible that the pendulum might swing back to labor and away from neoliberal profiteers?

2. Weener. Lou Dobbs reporting now.
The hubris of this administration and its funding sources is breathtaking. Bush & Co. are running scared now, that's the only reason they are doing a decent thing.

4. Historical perspective
Starting in 1968 - when the construction workers ("Hardhats"), and the Macomb County (MI) autoworkers - the GOP's "Southern Strategy" has been paying off.

But, I think the pendulum is swinging back--
    1. California Governor Boobengrabber's attacks on the state employee unions - and the counter attacks by the fire fighters and the nurses, especially.
    2. The advertising campaign by the Air Traffic Controllers.
    3. Offshoring and outsourcing across the economy.
    4. The inevitable end of auto manufacturing in the US.
This was just sending too many "wrong messages" - even for a dolt like Bush.
