An excellent piece of analysis:
From the Clark campaign's blog, but not just about Clark:

Another common topic of discussion at campaign HQ is the amount of money that the Bush/Cheney campaign is raising. It's currently projected to be somewhere between $170 and $200 million dollars, most of which must be spent between now and the date of the Republican National Convention (August 30 - September 2, 2004 in NYC). After this date, due to the McCain-Feingold campaign finance laws, the campaign spending is fiercely regulated and each camp must spend no more than the other. What this means is that the Bush/Cheney campaign will be spending tens of millions of dollars on negative TV advertising that attacks the Democratic candidate. It will be an intense summer-long advertising campaign aimed at middle America geared towards doing two things: 1) to discredit the Democratic candidate and create a negative public image, and 2) to shore up public support for Bush. It helps that billionaire financier George Soros is helping put together something called America Coming Together which will contribute $75 million towards the Democratic nominee, but this amount is easily trumped (no pun intended) by the Bush campaign's fundraising. It's easy to see why when you read news reports about Bush/RNC fundraising events that bring in $10 million per dinner.

I cut out the rest of it, as it was about Clark. I think it's important to understand what's going to happen as soon as a candidate wins the nomination. There will be a blizzard of excrement flying towards that candidate that will be thicker than Bush's skull. It's something to keep in mind, because the early negativity will probably set the tone for the rest of the campaign. Chris Lehane might find his services are in great demand before too much longer.

There were some people here a few months ago attacking Soros for being a 'corporate whore,' and all the rest of the lame lexicon of the extreme left. Some of y'all might end up owing George an apology before this is over. That $75 million is looking pretty good right now.
