A dangerous illusion for the Repubs...
I have heard it mentioned a couple of times that the Schwarzenegger victory in California is proof that it is the Repub Party that is the party of the "big tent". They believe this will spread across the Party nationwide. Let them keep on believing. The Christian Right is not going to surrender their chokehold on the Repub Party that easily. The Repubs are under a deep illusion if they believe this is going to happen. This is good news for the Democrats because the "big tent" of the Repubs will only stretch so far before the threads start to unravel and the tent rips right down the middle. Let them keep on believing...

1. This is why I thought the idea of Arnold as Governor of Ca
was quite interesting.

Eventually the people who vote Republican based on greed will clash mightily with the people who vote Republican because they are conservative Christian (or Muslim).

It's bound to happen sooner or later. Sure just over 50% of people believe abortion should be illegal, but just wait until certain birth control pills are considered "abortificants" and there's a threat they will be pulled off the market. Or wait until some politician suggests that birth control only be doled out by doctors who will require a copy of a marriage license before he gives a perscription for bc pills or fits a woman for a diaphram.

Or, wait until the 20somethings who consider themselves Republican are forced to consider spending $150K for k-12 education for each child they have because public education has been allowed to crumble.

Or, just wait until the Family & Medical Leave Act is whittled down and middle-class women can't take their 3 months off from work when they have a baby.
