It amazes me that Republicans are willing to SPIN a crime. |
|
Politics aside, a crime is a crime. If you LIE to a grand jury or the FBI it is a crime.

7. "Dems and Repubs have switched opinions." |
|
That statement is wrong.
I am still of the opinion that treason should be punished. I am still of the opinion that war should be a last resort. I am still of the opinion that I am my brothers keeper. I am still of the opinion that a woman should have a choice about childbirth. I am still of the opinion that republicans will say or do anything to further the right wing agenda.
They are still of the opinion that if you tell a lie enough times, it becomes truth. They are still of the opinion that it is worse to lie about sex than it is to lie about starting a war that kills thousands of innocents. They are still of the opinion that every man/woman/child must fend for himself. They are still of the opinion that abortion is not an option EVER, but don't ask for help after the child is born.
No SouthernDem2004, opinions haven't switched. They are still the hypocrites that they have always been.

10. As are alot of others.... |
|
My original post was an unfair generalization. That said you can still read alot of posts around here that suddenly make perjury a big deal now but it was not when President Clinton did it.
Call me strange but I do not like perjury regardless of what the lie is about. I was disappointed when Pres. Clinton did it. I have never defended him from it either.

17. I was thinking the same thing |
|
While there never was a criminal act involved in the underlying conduct in the Clinton case, that doesn't excuse Bill's attempt to mislead the grand jury. On the other hand, I do think motivation counts for something, and his motivation--trying to cover up something that was personally embarassing and politically damaging is not the same as the motivation of Libby, which appears to be to cover up something he felt might be unlawful -- the leak to the media.

3. What is it with some peoples belief systems? |
|
Is it just rascism that allows them to be ok with lying to get us to go to war?
I mean seriously? Do they care about the damage AT ALL?
Why isn't anyone running with the Brewster Jennings story? It wasn't just Plame. It was many many agents, they just used her name.
Don't they care why? Or do they just believe it was for a good reason?
Right before the indictment yesterday, one pundit was saying it was ok, because it was for the greater good. His reasoning, Saddam murdered a ton of people and after 9/11 we should go with the worst case senario. If someone says he has WMD's, we should react like he has WMD's.
Does anyone question the fact that the CIA had info re: 9/11??!! JESUS crimany.
Do they see the stark greed, the fact that the administrations "buddies & family" are making BILLIONS on this war?

15. They know that they will lose elections |

They don't want to lose their power that they've waited for thirty years for. So sad how they care more about power than the law and values of this country.

4. After all they've said and condoned |
|
They lost me when they went along with torture, all those republicans.
What amuses the heck out of me is how careful they are to not mention how likely it is that Libby did, in fact, lie for the very purpose of covering up the original crime being investigated. To heck with all the lies that have been told, they want to believe he lied to cover for Mr Cheney, and they believe it was justified. They believe Chaney simply must have done whatever he did for good, national security reasons. That's all they have. It's funny. I'm not sure at what point the Vice President rose above the law, but he's up there, flying high.
They want to believe her name was mentioned innocently, or, with justifiable reason, and could not have been (and there is no reason to think it was revenge, nevermind how hot the WMD issue was) a spiteful act of retribution which broke the law and harmed national security in the process.
Instead of seeing it for what it really is, they want to believe it's too unlikely. Holding fingers in ears, lalalalala all the way.

18. How can they believe the outing of Plame was an innocent gesture? |
|
Or that it was justified? Libby supposedly had an obsession room devoted to Wilson. Are we to believe that those who worked closely with him weren't aware of this?
Why do people get obsessed with other people? Generally, for two reasons: 1. Love (as they call it) 2. Revenge
With Libby's power, his capacity for revenge was almost unlimited, yet no one stepped forward to stop him. That was Cheney's duty, first and foremost. But Cheney did nothing. Rove probably aided and abetted. bush did nothing to stop him.
I could go on and on with the list of names of those aware of Libby's dirty mission. The bush maladminstration had a crazy drunk getting behind the wheel and didn't take away his keys.

that ignored George Bush's cocaine use because he simply said a la Forrest Gump, "That's all I've got to say about that". Oh well, if he doesn't want to talk about it, that's good enough for me!

11. Republican oath: "I promise to faithfully lie at every opportunity |

and especially on or with pre-approved lying media *targets*. I will faithfully defend the right to lie in all circumstances that do not involve fellow republican."
The republican culture of corruption kicks out anyone who can't faithfully defend lying.

12. Esp. considering that these idiots are always blaming liberal apologists |
|
for the crime rate. As the cliché goes, the raison d'etre of all liberals is to let criminals go unpunished and break into your home and rape your wife. You know the rant, you could sleepwalk it through. Nice to see how "liberal" these wingers get when one of their own lands in the hotseat. Let's wait for the "technicalities" to roll out, the hypocrites!

Republicans, the party of values, are now only working with 9 Commandments. They have obviously decided to purge the "Thou shalt not bear false witness" clause from their belief system.

16. That's what crime families are all about. They get the best brains |
|
out of the best universities in the world to search for loop holes in the law to screw the middle class. When they're caught they spin both ways at the same time, buy judges, corrupt jury pools and what ever else money can buy.
They hide behind Jesus and love for the American values while wearing the flag of their country.
