Kristof: "Come on, Mr. Vice President, tell us what happened."

A federal indictment charges that criminality swirled around your office, and it demeans this administration and the entire country when you hide in your bunker and refuse to say whether you knew of any such activities.

Five lawyers I've consulted all agree that there is no compelling legal reason why you should not discuss the situation. It's urgent that you clear the air by answering these questions in a televised news conference:

Did you ask Scooter Libby to undertake his inquiries about Ambassador Joseph Wilson? Mr. Libby made such a concerted push to get information, from both the State Department and the C.I.A., that I suspect that you prodded him. Is that right? If so, why?

Why did you independently ask the C.I.A. for information about the Wilsons? The indictment states that on June 12, 2003, you advised Mr. Libby that you had learned, apparently from the C.I.A., that Mr. Wilson's wife, Valerie, worked in the agency. So did you ask George Tenet, then the director, about Mr. and Mrs. Wilson? Did you review the related documents that the C.I.A. faxed to your office?

Did you know that Mrs. Wilson was a covert officer?

Let's have some answers to the real question -- Did Mrs. Valerie Plame Wilson tell you where to stick it, Dickie boy?

Peace.

2. Cheney has to be worried about his own legal jeopardy.
He won't say a word. Don't expect to see him on MTP any time soon.

8. Well, hell,...he was wheelin' and dealin' Iraqi oil fields PRE-WAR!!!
All I can do is shake my head at how this predatory profiteering regime has operated as the antithesis of integrity and honor and democracy.

When a well-defined clique of conspirators have betrayed an entire nation, have sacrificed and endangered the safety of their own citizens, have exploited the trust and resources of a country once admired for democratic progression,...and that cabal remains in a position to abuse power,...the thirst for justice increases exponentially.

I can only shake my head.

his name was referenced in the Libby indictment. if he was in legal jeopardy he would be named "Mr. B"

3. I can surmise one compelling reason why bush cannot discuss the situation:
The little bastid is involved up to his eyebrows in the Plame treason.

9. Thanks for posting that.
"Do you really want to be less forthcoming than Dick Nixon and Spiro Agnew?"

They're already as paranoid as Nixon, if not more. Their crimes make Nixon look like a chump, and I think the answer to the question Mr. Kristof asks, begrudgingly, is, yes. Yes he does want to be less forthcoming than they were. Treason is an ugly word. Halliburton is an ugly word too, now that I think about it.

11. What Did Bush Know
and when did HE know it. He ran around pretending "we may never know" when it was his own VP & two advisors. They either lied to him and he doesn't care; or he lied to the country.

13. I vote for he lied to the country...
I just can't believe he didn't know something, if not before the fact, then after the fact. All the twitching and eye-shifting he did on the Today show a few weeks ago when Matt Lauer was asking him about it just spells guilt to me. Not to mention he is a punk like the rest of them who likes to get revenge on people. That is how the Bushes operate, including the father.

14. For those who don't want to cough it up for NYTimes Select...
Which I don't, because I HATE to reward bad behavior, any more than I'd do so with my own kids. I am NOT throwing more money at the NYTimes (FIVE DOLLARS for a Sunday edition at the local Starbucks?!?!? I don't think so!!!) for their coddling and enabling of the run amok Judith Miller...

16. thank you. I too refuse to monetarily support the NYT until they fess up
to being complicit and clean house.

It is about time we hear dissent from the MSM. It's too bad it took so long. They have even more tools available to them than we did, yet they have been willing to march in step with the treasonous administration. While I applaud the poignant questions, and while I know there are so many more to ask (details about the war, the past two elections and the transparency of the vote, the no bid contracts to cronies etc) I think the press has to take the time to reflect on their past actions and ask themselves some serious introspective questions, as well.

As always, UL great post!

17. We know they knew, the question is what did they do?
Unless they have selective blindness when reading reports and selective hearings when listening to briefings, they knew Valerie Plame Wilson was classified. The report that was on the plane clearly stated that and that's just the one we know about.

I just don't for one second believe that Bush and Cheney did not know.
