To those who want to make me afraid: GO F--- YOURSELVES!! |
|
I've been on this Earth somewhere close to 50 years, and in that entire time, I've never before seen a White House administration that encourages this country to be so full of fear at every minute of the day as this one does. "OSAMA WILL KILL YA!! SADDAM WILL KILL YA!! AVIAN FLU IS GONNA KILL YA!! PEAK OIL IS GONNA KILL YA!!! BE AFRAID!! BE VERY AFRAID!! AAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!'
Does anyone else find it just a tiny bit odd that all OF this terrible jeopardy has just descended on us within the last FIVE years? Doesn't it just seem even a tiny bit strange that we never had to deal with all of this imminent devastation before September of 2001? Doesn't it seem just a little bit odd that prior to that date, this country was rocketing ahead to being the most productive and technologically advanced country in the WORLD?
I grew up in an America where WE were the brave explorers. I grew up in an America where WE were the first to explore the vast unknown in science, medicine, etc. I grew up in an America where WE were the ones who were the world's trailblazers. The USA was the smartest and most capable nation in the world, and NONE of us were afraid. I grew up in an America where COURAGE, BRAINS, INGENUITY, and HARD WORK won the day. FEAR wasn't even part of our national vocabulary. What happened to all of that? Where did it all go?
The Republicans killed it, and they made us a nation of 38% wimps, and that's all there is to it.

2. The repugs could only win with fear |
|
The evangelical Christians are only a small minority in this country. The only way they won was through fear. What does that tell you?
Well, we ain't buying it anymore. (not that I ever did, btw)

I'm not even fifty years old (um, mid-thirties) and I can remember that, too. Of course we did have the SCARY SCARY COLD WAR FEAR era of Raygun but even that was more of a low-level fear than these last five years.
Geez. Fear burnout. They can take their fearmongering and shove it up their puckered asses.
The PROBLEM is that some of these things are real. And some really good deliberate thoughtful discussion on them would be good! But we've got boys who cry "wolf" in office so nothing productive will happen until we have real adults in charge again, who remember that they are to serve the PEOPLE. Not the other way around.

You can traumatize me but you can't make me live in fear.
Sorry, didn't work.
We're still here, and we STILL know what you're up to.
And, your little dog, too!

7. Yes. I have noted that armageddon-talk descended upon us,... |
|
,...in just the last five years.
Don't worry, though. We are still a nation filled with courage, ingenuity, resilience and hope. Neither the Republicans or the media can take those qualities from us even when they insist upon shoving that dark world view shit down everyone's throats on a daily basis.

There was a time when our nation lived every moment under the VERY REAL threat of nuclear Armageddon...
Yet, it somehow managed to get up every morning and go about its daily life.
Now, we have an administration whose entire existence is built on stoking the fear of an endless series of vague, ill-defined threats... and we have watched the rule of law utterly disappear in response to them.

12. From what I understand, one of the main themes of "Bowling for Columbine" |
|
is that the Powers-That-Be LOVE to keep us in a state of fear.
I need to watch that movie, and soon. Also want to watch Fahrenheit 911 again...

14. Yes, you make a good point! Unfortunately, I grew up terrified |
|
of nuclear war and was told at nearly every turn how many Soviet bombs were aimed at us.
Terror is not new, although it's made a huge comeback in the last 5 yrs.

And believe me, I had my own nuclear nightmares.
But when I woke up, I was always somewhat reassured by the fact that the Russians didn't want to die a horrible radioactive death just as much as I didn't. And I also knew that the people in Washington didn't want to die that way, either.
And I also know that our current administration doesn't want to die in such a terrible way--but unfortunately they also know that scaring us every minute of the day is an effective way to control us and make us do what they want.
And so they can go f--- themselves. I've had it with them.

19. They're recycling all the old fear tactics..... |
|
I guess if it worked for them in the 50's and 60's, they figure it'll work again. Fortunately, some of us are old enough to have become immunized against the old propaganda. We can "vaccinate" younger voters with our experience.

Between anthrax and Osama, tularemia and bird flu, shoe bombers and subway terror, they are overplaying their hand.
The little boy in the White House is a combination between that kid who cried Wolf and Chicken Little.
The only way the sky will fall is if the idiot keeps polluting it, and it crashes down on us from the weight of the particulates!

The blatant truth of their operations would not survive if not for the dangers that are real but hyped or merely projected upon the public: drugs, terrorists, porn, commies, liberals, etc...
I've been sick of this crap since I was a teenager. I've also seen right through it.

If there was anything "nasty" in what I gave.
There I stood, divided by height, weight, sex, race, and age from this little one with heart in an honest question.
I was handing out pennies.
I wanted to figure out who had indocrinated this little one, and read them the riot act.

No, not 9-11.
Yes, "mushroom clouds in 45 minutes" was the Most Heinous Act of Terrorism in History.
Anything 20 guys with boxcutters, or for that matter even a "dirty bomb," could do pales in comparison to the "bomb threat" the PNACons in the Bushkid Regime perpetrated on our nation.

28. What's saddest of all |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 06:25 PM by LiberalPartisan
Is so many Americans are eager to shred the Bill of Rights and hand over their freedom. The level of outright ignorance on even the most basic of ideas is appalling. A recent poll showed 51% don't believe in Evolution. Those 51% might as well paint IDIOT on their foreheads. With such a populace it's easy to sow fear and hatred. These morons are literally salivating in anticipation of the official unveiling of the Fasscist States of America.
Suffice it to say my plans to depart this country are in place. If the 2006 mid-term elections see even more republicans voted in to Congress that will prove that the ieaa and ideals of America are dead and I will be leaving forever.
