Aaron Brown TOTALLY OUT at CNN: "Spending time with his family"
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 03:59 PM by Bluebear
Aaron Brown is out at CNN, and Anderson Cooper will take over Browns 10 p.m. time slot, effective Monday.

The shakeup comes as a result of some prime time scheduling moves that CNN made official Wednesday. Cooper will take his 7 p.m. showcase, Anderson Cooper 360, to the 10-midnight spot, formerly occupied by Brown's NewsNight. Cooper's old spot will be filled by an additional hour of The Situation Room, hosted by Wolf Blitzer.

In a memo to staffers, CNN president Jon Klein said the veteran anchor "will be leaving CNN and is very much looking forward to some well-deserved time off with his family."

1. bwhahahaha.
though he was really never too horrible onair, he was an outright jerk via email. And I never could withstand much of his pious heavy sighing.

And now, lets take a look at tomorrow's headlines...

24. On the few occassions I sent
emails, he was a hugh a##. Extremely conscending and rude. I can't say that I'm sorry although he hasn't been quite as bad lately on air.

11. I did too. At least he had Wes Clark on every night PRE war
Of course I disagreed with him from time to time but mostly he covered the whole story or as much as they will allow on American media.

21. I agree! I had suspected that this was coming, but I really had no idea
that he would be permanently replaced. He was reasonably reasonable. Wolf Blitzkrieg extra hours is not goods news!

28. I also like Aaron - but he is making a guaranteed $1 million/yr thru 7/07
I don't think he will be hurting.

The producer has been pulling his chain for last 2 years - preventing selection of any stories that were negative on the GOP/Bush, and indeed doing "for the hell of it" instructions over the earpiece to do this rather than that.

He deserves his time off after all that!

:-)

:toast:

40. We need to get congress involved in this media manipulation. No more
RW talking points pushed down our throats. Media should be objective and unbiased and free to speak the truth such as Aaron's outrage over Katrina. this was a breaking point for a lot of journalists-and rightfully so. It is the media's job to report truthfully and NOT TO PLEASE THE WH!

19. He has been critical of the administration.
Not as obvious as Jon Stewart or Jack Cafferty, because that's just not Aaron. I suspect most of this is because of ratings. It almost always is. I'm thinking that Cooper isn't going to do very well in the 11 to 12 segments of his new spot though. Way too many people watch TDS, and they're not about to give that up for Cooper.

12. Aaron was thoughtful and more willing to go in depth
rather than doing soundbite news or sucking up to the right wing. Brown was famous for the dramtic pause and sighing. From time to time he would say something mocking towards his profession. As long as he does not end up at Faux. Wish him well.

But now CNN has decided to punish America with even more Wolf.

taste. Just seemed a bit too full of him self and came across as a know-it-all. Sort of like the feeling I get when Rita Cosby comes on...doesn't matter what she is saying, it's how she is saying it. Thoroughly enjoy Cooper though. Seems to me like a 10:00 PM spot would be a demotion for him.

on Edit: Snooty, he seemed snooty, like he was talking down to me. I didn't like that, and because of that impression, I didn't watch him much.

16. Bye Bye Mr Brown
I will never forget the email you wrote me, after the first debate between Bush*t and Kerry, I asked you, why is CNN calling the debate a tie, when most other outlets said Kerry won handsdown.

You replyed, "different people see things differently"

Just one last question, ARE YOU GOING TO WORK FOR FAUX NOW?

31. I had the feeling while watching the CNN Katrina coverage

that there might have been just a little bit of friction between Brown and Cooper. If so, I wonder if things came to a head behind the scenes. Something we probably will never know about. It looked like CNN was marketing Cooper. He was recently on the Letterman show and a few other non-CNN shows. I liked Brown. I liked his style of presenting the news.
