Boycott Sony
After being caught out by a researcher, Sony has admitted to planting a secret, invisible digital rights management tool on PCs when they play Sony CDs, a bit of malware that can't be removed without damaging host computers.

The following link will take you to a rather lengthy, but very readable blog-post by Mark Russinovich where he deescribes how he learned of Sony's spyware and the extraordinary lengths he went to in order to remove the program. Russinovich is an expert on system level computer operating systems so it is noteworthy that his efforts at removing the spyware highlight the extent that corporations will go to invade your privacy.

Recomendation: boycott all Sony products.

5. They are trying to win people back now....just download the patch!
"Sony Unit to Distribute Software Patch By MATTHEW FORDAHL, AP Technology Writer
Wed Nov 2,11:23 PM ET
SAN JOSE, Calif. - After a chorus of criticism, Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news).'s music division said Wednesday it is distributing a free software patch to reveal hidden files that automatically installed to hard drives when some of its music CDs were played on personal computers.

The offending technology was designed to thwart music piracy.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment and its partner, UK-based First 4 Internet, said they decided to offer the patch as a precaution, not because of any security vulnerability, which some critics had alleged."

Now, I'm going to download and install a "patch" that will remove the previous spy/malware "patch"....
Riiiight. :eyes:
