FORT BLISS - A military jury cleared an Army sergeant Friday of all charges that he abused a detainee in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Duane M. Grubb, the third soldier from the 377th Military Police Company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, to be acquitted on charges of abusing detainees in Bagram, Afghanistan, fought back tears and hugged his wife after the jury of four officers and four enlisted men made its decision in about 30 minutes.

Sixth Ohio reservist goes on trial in Afghanistan prisoner-abuse case

FORT BLISS, Texas - An Army reservist at an Afghanistan detention center struck and taunted a detainee who may have been mentally disabled, a former soldier testified as a military trial began Thursday.

Former Spc. Jeremy Callaway told jurors that Sgt. Duane M. Grubb was one of two soldiers who repeatedly struck Zarif Khan while the detainee held on to barbed wire in a cell.

Callaway also said Grubb was among four troops who taunted Khan, calling him "Timmy," in reference to a disabled character on the cartoon "South Park." Khan has been described as mentally retarded. snip

He has pleaded innocent to charges of assault, maltreatment and making a false official statement.

Khan was released from American custody and cannot be located, prosecutors in another case said during an unrelated hearing Tuesday. It was unclear why he was detained.

1. Did anyone really think that there would be any other outcome?
After all, we strictly follow the rules regarding the treatment of prisoners.:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

2. So we cleared someone of beating a possibly mentally
retarded person? That's just sick.

3. Doesn't sound like there was enough evidence to convict...
That's not to say he didn't do it...he may well have, but from what the second article stated it sounds like there was a lot of reasonable doubt.
