The "Republicans we should have given more credit to" thread.
This thread is to recognize those Republicans who may have irritated us because of the job they had to perform, but ultimately they were fair and may have suffered political recriminations from the Right because of it.

For this thread, I nominate Robert Ray. The last special investigator whose job it was to create the final report on Clinton. His report wasn't damaging enough to Clinton, so he lost the support of the Right to run for office.

I'm editorializing like crazy, but it gets the point across. To see a great interview of Robert Ray, go to
http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/videos/headlines/index.jhtml

Click on the "Flu Fighters" icon, then the pop-up menu will give you five menu choices. Pick Robert Ray.

1. The GOP has a talking point now
A current RW talking point is that investigations into WMD lies or charges for crimes committed by by Libby or Rove will disrupt the nation. So investigations or charges should not go forward.

The RWs say they had enough evidence to file criminal charges against Clinton but didn't because they didn't want to disrupt the country, so Democrats should now show the same courtesy. Of course, like everything else the RW says, its a lie. They desperately wanted charges filed against Clinton whether there was any evidence or not.

Its true Robert Ray didn't criminally charge Clinton, but Ray never said laws weren't broken. The reason Ray didn't charge was because he didn't have a case.

By making a hero of Ray now (which he doesn't deserve) we would be helping the RW pull a fast one.

5. I don't see your point at all.
Take a look at the Dailyshow clip. Jon Stewart asked him what he found and Ray said, "NOTHING." Ray is a Republican who will counter the current spin that you mentioned in your post. Get informed or be manipulated by the right. It's the only way to counter their spin.

Crooks shouldn't be allowed to commit heinous crimes, then say they're too heinous to investigate for the good of the country. Puhlease.

I say we use the Ray Report against them.

8. Add to this that Clinton did not investigate the October Surprise
(Paris, France Oct. 18, 1980) that would have been treason against Bush I and probably been the political death by association of W as well.

Doesn't seem like things are so equal.

Also JFK, MLK, RFK not around in their golden years to help out, also hurts.

The repugs have had things their way for way too long. Not another inch!

6. You need that report. They won't listen to Democrats, so they should
listen to a Republican who investigated the matter and basically agrees with us that the Clinton investigations were all about nothing.

I sure do hope you all take a look at Jon Stewart's interview of Ray.

7. There are things that creep up about McCain that gives me the
impression that he's a politician 24/7. The fact that Bush, Reed and Rove ganged up on him in 2000 is probably the only quality that he possesses that endears him to us.

9. Warren Rudman - he's so honest that Bush wouldn't allow him near 9-11
evidence.

He also helped write the Hart-Rudman Report on Global Terror that was handed to Bush on Jan 30, 2001. Bush refused to read it.

10. They silenced Rudman up real good.
