Headsup-WaPo: "Cheney Fights for Detainee Policy" (wants "legal" torture)
Please come to LBN thread on a significant new front-page Washington Post article co-authored by the reporter who broke the secret CIA prisons story:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1906025
thread title (11/7): WaPo 11/7: "Cheney Fights for Detainee Policy" (wants "legal" torture)

Here Cheney is portrayed as waging a "intense and largely unpublicized campaign" to block imposition of rules forbidding torture of "terrorist suspects" - a stance that has become politically dangerous and is now piously opposed by increasing numbers of GOP officials. Here we see the division within the WH and Congressional GOP, with Cheney increasingly isolated and the other side (more names added in this article, including Rice's) waving new fake haloes and saying that of our course THEY are on the side of the angels. :eyes: Bush's own support of the torture language and Gonzales' memo and the failure of the newly pious (except for McCain) to speak up earlier are ignored, of course.

Please come read the article and the analysis and join the discussion!

2. Oh yeah - it's now politically dangerous and so they are spinning
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 02:32 PM by Nothing Without Hope
like mad. The spinning is in three parts:

1. "I would never do such a thing!" O8)

2. "It wasn't really so bad anyway and WE don't torture!" :eyes:

3. "If anything bad happened, it was Cheney's fault!" :spank:

Please come to the main thread - this is a signficant article, but so far it is almost invisible at DU.

I posted this GD Forum headsup because many people don't check the LBN thread list, so unless it's on the Greatest page (which it isn't), it's functionally invisible to most DUers.

11. Why yes Mr Cheney
We will be glad to allow the signing of this "Torture Bill" if you'll just stand over here by this wall of Microwave machines all timed to go off in about 30 Seconds..

OR you could pull up a STOOL and can demostrate "STRESS POSITIONS" for us where we tie your arms and legs to the legs of the stool so that you will be immobile during Bush's entire State of the Union Address - I'm sure that you will be lost in every word of his speech..

I got news for these fuckers - I KNOW what that feels like, and tho it's a weak comparison, if you've ever POSED (naked) in Art Classes - and I've done it in college, hell if he model didn't show up I had no problem doffing my clothes and getting up there naked to pose for the class..

One thing I found tho, and just TRY THIS. If you hold PERFECTLY STILL for more than about three minutes every muscle in your body will start to complain, then they will ache, then TWITCH uncontrollably and then it will HURT - and that's just from standing there holding STILL.

And don't get me started about the time the teacher thought it was a good idea for me to sit on a couch nude with someone's German Sheppard laying there with me for everyone to draw.. Here I was sitting there, minding my own naked business but watching this HUGE dog cocking his head and looking in my lap as if there was some kind of "treat" there for him - and I'm not talking about a doggie biscuit either..

I've never been so ready to move so fast from a frozen position in my life :)

We actually need at this point for a REPORTER (hey Judas Miller's doing nothing at the moment) go through the "Stress Positions" for a period of time and show us just how much they are simply "uncomfortable", and NOT torture..

Maybe Lash Tweety to a kiddie chair from Kindergarden with his hands cuffed to his ankles and let him report how it feels as the clock ticks away..

Now THAT would be Pay Per View TV I'd dump a WAD of Cash on :)
