How does it work when you have a Dem Gov and a Pub Lt. Gov? |
|
I watched the Kaine victory speech tonoght, and he did a good job, but it looks like a race too close to call for the Lt. Gov spot.
Can anybody really make a divisive situation like that work?

1. Probably not very well. |
|
Lt. Gov probably has to get the coffee and doughnuts for the Gov.

4. some time it's a mess.... |
|
in one state when the Gov left the state the constituion said the Lt. Gov was in charge (I forget which state) and the Lt Gov would do some thing for the other party until the Gov got back and reversed it. It was way to political.

5. The Lt. Gov. will become a glorified state senator. |
|
He becomes de facto leader of the opposition, breaks ground on small bridges and nursing homes, sits on panels where his staff do all the work, and hang out in Richmond waiting to cast tie-breaking votes.

ing happen to Kaine.:scared: In Vermont, the Gov. & Lt. Gov can run in opposite parties, this is how Dean became Governor after Republican Richard Snelling had a heartattack while cleaning his pool.

7. California's Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante is a Dem |
|
I confess I haven't really paid attention to what leverage he has and to what extent he uses it.

10. I know about Ca. but I thought that was because the LT Gov |
|
was elected with Gray Davis and he just kept his position after Aarnald took over.

That whole recall thing was such a farce that I've blocked much of it.

8. That's why I don't understand states that elect them separately. |
|
We elect a Pres and VPres together. In my state we elect the Gov and Lt Gov the same way--together on one ticket. Makes more sense to me.

11. Well, nationally we'd have avoided Quayle, for starters. |
|
Although Lieberman's not exactly my cup of tea, imagine all the problems the country would have avoided were Dick Cheney not to have become VP.
If an executive needs a friend, let him get a dog. If he needs an advisor and some guy to sit on committees, let him get a fossil from a smoke-filled room. If he wants war, he and his fossil had their chances.
