The Anti-Gay Referendum in Texas |
|
I don't like it, I'm pissed about it, and I'm trying to convince myself that it will go away soon, hopefully not long after we get rid of that piece-of-shit Goodhair.
But that's not the point.
In the past few days, I heard three, yes THREE automated political messages pushing this travesty come over the answering machine at my brother's house. (I am cell phone only, so none for me.) I don't live there. I hang around a lot so I can use his internet service. But I'm not around that much.
Somebody spent a shitload of money promoting this horror, even if I heard every call that came.

1. I'm not lovin' it, either |

Only one out of every four voters said "No" to this travesty yesterday. I was hoping for a much closer margin either way.

just sold "Right to Life" down the river (by stopping the Miers nomination).
What's the one thing that gets a bunch of extremist church Fetus Fanatics more stirred up than Fetuses . . . Gays!!! and the definite possibly that Gays will be GOOD for Marriage. They fear Gays more than Free Women, but not quite so much as some of them hate other Races.

You know, it's "fine" to think that homosexuality is wrong. Everyone has the right to decide these things for themselves. But what makes anyone think they can legislate their own morality for what is essentially a victimless situation? They can't be Christians or they would know the passage about "don't worry about the splinter in someone else's eye, but worry about the log in your own." (paraphrased.)
One day we will look back on these days and just shake our head. Kind of like back when women wore garter belts and hats. How strange!

I too find this to be scary shit. They aren't even trying to hide their bigotry anymore. Lots of us here have tried to convince ourselves that the whole red-blue thing is a vast over simplification, and it is to a certain extent, but there is a real and profound chasm in our country between secular and religious cultures. The culture war is the aspect of this whole mess where things could spiral out of control very quickly.

5. It stinks to high heaven; I also got those phone calls. |

I'm very concerned about Goodhair; if they can slink by with this margin, what chance do we have to change the leadership here?

At least Travis county has some sanity. This won't stand. We're gonna take our country back and none too soon. Call me idealistic.
GET OUT OF MY BEDROOM, UNCLE SAM! I really don't like people watching.

I knew Prop 2 would pass, but never thought it would receive that high percentage of votes. Something smells on this one. :tinfoilhat: With the governor, the state legislators, DeLay and the religious zealots, it's hard to live in this place anymore. And to think that all of my husband's relatives voted for a constitutional amendment to discriminate makes me sick.
:puke:
